The previous FIFA formula was over four years. The new one is more of an Elo system which started after the 2018 World Cup.
Now each game changes the rankings, and games never drop out or become less valuable. Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the June 2023 FIFA Rankings: 11. USA (up 2) 14. Mexico (up 1) 42. Costa Rica (down 3) 45. Canada (up 2) 57. Panama (up 1) 63. Jamaica (even) 76. El Salvador (down 1) 81. Honduras (down 1) 87. Haiti (even) 88. Curacao (even) Trinidad and Tobago in 101st is the other Concacaf team in the top half. 24 of 35 Concacaf teams are in the bottom half. 18 teams played at least one game that was added to the June 2023 rankings. Men's Ranking (fifa.com) USA, Canada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago gained at least 5 points. Costa Rica lost 12.82 points, Jamaica lost 14.04 points, and no other team lost at least 5 points. USA peaked in fourth in 2006 and then fell after that World Cup. From 2007 to now, USA's best rank was 10th in 2021. USA is 30.11 behind 10th place Spain. Gaining that much in one month is hard, but maybe winning the Gold Cup will be enough to get USA in the top ten.
Looks like if they win the Gold Cup unbeaten they could go top 8. http://www.football-rankings.info/2023/06/fifa-ranking-july-2023-probable-ranking.html?m=1
That site was made before the Nations League Semifinals, and has USA finishing July with 55.13 more points than they have now. In the FIFA Rankings, the most difficult opponents for USA are Canada, Panama, and Mexico. Panama is 1 spot above Qatar, so it makes a tiny difference which one of them advances. Beating Canada would gain 12.05, beating Panama would gain 10.35, and beating Mexico would gain 18.69, for a total of 41.09, which is 14.04 fewer than that site projects, which would put USA tenth. I hope I did my calculations correctly.
Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the July 2023 FIFA Rankings: 11. USA (even) 12. Mexico (up 2) 43. Canada (up 2, up 1 in Concacaf) 45. Panama (up 12, up 1 in Concacaf) 46. Costa Rica (down 4, down 2 in Concacaf) 58. Jamaica (up 5) 75. El Salvador (up 1) 79. Honduras (up 2) 87. Haiti (even) 88. Curacao (even) Costa Rica is not in Concacaf's top four for the first time since they were sixth in March 2013. For part of 2014 to 2017, Costa Rica was first in Concacaf. 11 of 35 Concacaf teams (31.4 percent) are in the top half, with Trinidad and Tobago being last one in 102nd. Panama had the spots and points gained in the world. USA gained 1.14 from their disappointing Gold Cup, while champion Mexico gained 26.40 to move 8.89 behind USA. St. Kitts and Nevis had the most spots and points lost in the world. Three Oceanian teams dropped out due to inactivity, so the 208 ranked teams are the fewest in a while. Of the 62 games played between the June and July Rankings, the only games other than the Gold Cup were a tournament for part of Asia and a tournament for part of Africa, both of which count as friendlies in the FIFA Rankings.
FIFA rankings love El Salvador while CONCACAF rankings love Guatemala. El Salvador is #7 per FIFA and #11 per CONCACAF Guatemala is #12 per FIFA and #8 per CONCACAF
Concacaf rankings still gaga over Guatemala's victories against Guadeloupe and French Guiana, while FIFA swears it never happened
This is how I rank CONCACAF teams at the moment as a neutral observer 1. USA _______________Significant gap 2. Mexico 3. Canada 4. Panama _______________Significant gap 5. Costa Rica 6. Jamaica 7. El Salvador 8. Suriname 9. Honduras 10. Haiti 11. Guatemala 12. Curaçao Again significant gap and about the rest I don't know.
I dunno about those gaps, though... Mexico might, might just be done shooting itself in the foot if it lets Lozano continue... and Costa Rica bit the bullet and got rid of Luis Fernando Suárez, so we'll see if they can get back on track as well.
I realize ELO are different; but, after the Mexico and USA Losses, Panama wins, and Canada with a game pending; Panama and Canada are within 1 match week result of moving into 1st in the region. The ELO Ratings: 1. Mexico 1792 2. USA 1776 3. Panama 1766 4. Canada 1738 5. Jamaica 1586
Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the November 2023 FIFA Rankings: 12. USA (down 1) 14. Mexico (down 2) 41. Panama (up 3) 48. Canada (down 3) 52. Costa Rica (down 6) 55. Jamaica (even) 76. Honduras (up 2, up 1 in Concacaf) 78. El Salvador (down 1, down 1 in Concacaf) 89. Haiti (down 1) 90. Curacao (down 1) Trinidad and Tobago in 96th is the only other team in the top half. 31.4 percent of Concacaf is in the top half.
If I'm not mistaken, the going rumor online is that this ranking will be the one used for our WCQ draw, right? In which case, Haiti just barely rounds out the top seeds for the second-round groups... with two teams advancing, they won't be as cutthroat as last time, though.
Wikipedia says those rankings will be used, so the pots are: 1: Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras, El Salvador, and Haiti 2: Curacao, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatema, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, and Suriname 3: Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, and Cuba 4: Bermuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Montserrat, Barbados, and Dominica 5: Belize, Aruba, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, and two Round 1 winners Round 1 will be in March with Anguilla vs. Turks and Caicos Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands vs. British Virgin Islands Round 2 is in June 2024 and June 2025, which I am assuming will be the longest gap Concacaf ever had between consecutive World Cup qualifiers for the same World Cup. I was unable to find when the draw is. I hope Concacaf does the draw before Round 1 in March.
Cuba are definitely the dark horse in Pot 3: always hard to gauge them after losing players every time they are Stateside, but they performed much better than I anticipated in Nations League. From Haiti's perspective, give me anyone else in that pot and I'm confident that we advance if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot. As for El Salvador, they gotta be happy that Martinique can't participate
Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the February 2024 FIFA Rankings: 13. USA (down 1) 15. Mexico (even, fell from 14th in November to 15th in December that I did not post) 44. Panama (down 3) 50. Canada (down 2) 54. Costa Rica (down 2) 57. Jamaica (down 2) 78. Honduras (down 2) 81. El Salvador (down 3) 90. Haiti (down 1) 91. Curacao (down 1) Trinidad and Tobago in 96th is the last Concacaf team in the Top 100 and in the top half. 11 of 35 Concacaf teams (31.4 percent) are in the top half. The median of 210 teams is 105.5th, and the media Concacaf team is Guyana in 157th. FIFA has 211 members, but Eritrea is unranked because they have not played in four years. The AFC and CAF tournaments made some of those teams move up, and made Concacaf teams fall without playing. USA (down 3.57), Honduras (down 2.37), and Guatemala (down 1.81) were the only Concacaf teams to change their points. 115 teams changed their ranking, and all of them were within the 143 teams ranging from 12th to 154th. San Marino remained in last, and the next four worst teams are Turks and Caicos Islands in 206th, British Virgin Islands in 207th, US Virgin Islands in 208th, and Anguilla in 209th. National teams play in March, and the next rankings will be in seven weeks on April 4. In World Cup Qualifying Round 1 on March 22 and 26, Anguilla hosts the first leg against Turks and Caicos Islands, and US Virgin Islands hosts the first leg against British Virgin Islands. The 36 remaining AFC teams will play two games.
Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the April 2024 FIFA Rankings: 11. USA (up 2) 14. Mexico (up 1) 45. Panama (down 1) 49. Canada (up 1) 52. Costa Rica (up 2) 55. Jamaica (up 2) 81. El Salvador (even, up 1 in Concacaf) 82. Honduras (down 4, down 1 in Concacaf) 90. Haiti (even) 91. Curacao (even) Trinidad and Tobago in 98th is the only other Concacaf team in the top half. 24 of 35 (68.6 percent) of Concacaf teams are in the bottom half. Guyana (up 3), St. Lucia (up 2), Bermuda (up 1), Montserrat (up 1), Barbados (up 1), Cayman Islands (up 1), and Bahamas (up 2) were the other Concacaf teams that moved up. Anguilla remained in 209th, which is only above San Marino, but gained 7.79 points. The next rankings will be on June 20.

Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the September 2024 FIFA Rankings: 17. Mexico (even, up 1 in Concacaf) 18. USA (down 2, down 1 in Concacaf) 37. Panama (down 2) 38. Canada (up 2) 50. Costa Rica (down 1) 61. Jamaica (down 2) 77. Honduras (up 2) 80. El Salvador (up 1) 86. Haiti (down 1) 88. Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the October 2024 FIFA Rankings: 16. Mexico (up 1) 18. USA (even) 35. Canada (up 3, up 1 in Concacaf) 39. Panama (down 2, down 1 in Concacaf) 50. Costa Rica (even) 61. Jamaica (even) 77. Honduras (even) 83. El Salvador (down 3) 86. Haiti (even) 90. Curacao (down 2) Trinidad and Tobago was down 1 to 102nd, and is the eleventh and final Concacaf team in the top half. 31.4 percent of Concacaf is in the top half. The media of all ranked teams is 105.5, and Concacaf's median is Antigua and Barbuda in 156th. The total move for Concacaf was down 5 spots, meaning down 0.14 spots per team. Dominican Republic, Bermuda, Belize, Barbados, and Suriname gained at least 10 points. Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Anguilla, US Virgin Islands, Guyana, and British Virgin Islands lost at least 10 points. Puerto Rico (up 1 to 153rd), St. Lucia (remained 164th), and Montserrat (down 1 to 180th) did not play, so they did not have their points change. FIFA does not list any results for Curacao either, but they lost 0.51 points. With the current ELO-based method, old results never drop out, and a team cannot gain or lose points without playing.
Here are the Top 10 in Concacaf in the October 2024 FIFA Rankings: 16. USA (up 2, up 1 in Concacaf) 19. Mexico (down 3, down 1 in Concacaf) 31. Canada (up 4) 36. Panama (up 3) 54. Costa Rica (down 4) 62. Jamaica (down 1) 75. Honduras (up 2) 83. El Salvador (even) 86. Haiti (even) 91. Curacao (down 1) Canada has their best FIFA Ranking ever. Their previous best was 33rd in February 2022. I previously said that Trinidad and Tobago was the eleventh and final Concacaf team in the top half, but Guatemala remained twelfth in Concacaf, and was in the top half last month and this month. Trinidad and Tobago is 102nd, Guatemala is 105th, and then there is a big gap to Nicaragua in 133rd. Concacaf teams combined to drop six spots. ELO is significantly different. ELO has Canada 26th and first in Concacaf, Mexico 32nd and second in Concacaf, and USA 34th and third in Concacaf.
