Remaining qualifying competitions CONMEBOL Copa America Femenina Sub 20 2026 Dates: 4-28 February 2026 Venues: TBD 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup Dates: 1-18 April 2026 Venue: TBD CAF U-20 Women’s Qualifiers Dates: Four rounds between 9th May 2025 and 10th May 2026 Venue: Various
Quite shocking that Conmebol and AFC have no confirmed venues for these competitions which are only a few months away.
Not shocking: a) AFC already held its u20 qualifiers draw (Nov 10), specifying nation host and venues: b) C'BOL loves announcing u20 women's qualifiers host during late December. That media release is generally useless because its qualifiers draw is executed one month before kickoff, so squads cannot scout host cities unless their fed is favored by C'BOL. They might call it a security measure, I would call it not knowing which host venues are ready until the last minute.
AFC 2026 U-20 Women's Asian Cup is in Thailand. Venues have been announced. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_AFC_U-20_Women's_Asian_Cup
South America becomes the last region to define its u20 qualifiers, which should start next Feb 4. Group draw was completed two days ago, announcing Paraguay as host nation without mentioning official venues. PAR fed posted that three municipal stadiums are under review. It also designated a city park as a "training complex" for national squads. Oh Conmebol, where is all that "women's football development" funding from FIFA? Certainly not here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kcPJg1MSBhx1RsrQ6
I'm going to be really interested in this tournament. Strangely, this is not on FIFA's official schedule, so clubs are not required to release players. I hope they do as there are quite a few U20 players (that qualify) that are in various national teams. In particular, I'm looking at the US with Hutton, Bugg, and Yohannes, hopefully. And I also hope to see another outing for Claudia Martinez.
yeah, France and England in previous tournament have been weakened by clubs refusal to let their player go. I can guarantee Arsenal will not let Agyemang go to that tournament if she has recovered from her ACL. Lyon, Paris SG and Paris FC will also block some of their players.
Not sure how much longer the Spirit will condone Martinez' use in youth national team tournaments. There is some overlap in Paraguay's schedule for the U20 and senior team WC qualifications come April--so we'll see how club and country handle that situation. This is reminiscent of Linda Caicedo playing in both senior and youth tournaments in 2024--for some reason, Real Madrid allowed her to miss some early season games including CL qualifying to be at the U20 WC in Sept. 2024, after she played in the Olympics--it was hosted by Colombia, so their Fed probably really wanted her.
C.Martinez just turned 18 years old: 4 years or more younger than the rest of the Washington Spirit roster. Her club won't miss her, IF her youth squad manages to qualify to u20 WC. She would have to miss 8 club matches, if she gets to participate. NWSL has to release her for Senior WC qualifiers, too. If anything her club must be hedging her potential u20 WC matches against media exposure, knowing well that the 2024 edition had zero NWSL employees, apart from some individuals in USA+CAN u20 rosters.

Unless things change, the U20 World Cup is not on the mandatory release calendar. Thus Martinez is not required to be released and might not miss any matches.
