There are a few things that bother me about FIFA that don't bother me about the other sports games and that is the stats are weak. This years version is lacking league leaders. All other sports games have done way better as far as presentation, stats, and player info/team info during the game. I enjoy playing FIFA, but this is a little disappointing. The main thing that started me thinking about all this is the annoying lack of assists tracking. It is stupid for my other players that play well to not get credit for directly setting up a goal. When do you think EA (or FIFA in the real world) will begin keeping count of assists, at least in MLS? I know they are just trying to be accurate to real life, but it would be nice to at least have an option. -Von
It would be nice for US fans to have assist recorded, but I also understand how it would annoy everyone else. -And if would be too much of a pain to have that specific of a US version of the game. -The stat problem that bugs me the most is the lack of a shut-out stat or a stat that keeps track of streaks. -Normally, that wouldn't both me, but since a lot of the season goals defined by the game involve shut-outs and streaks of some kind, it would be nice if the game kept track of those things in a way that was convenient to check on.
It would also be nice to see goalkeeper stats, too, like punch/catch, GAA, saves per game, save %, etc. Also in next years game it would be nice to have league leaders back not only for field players, but for goalies, too. -Von
While it doesn't keep track of assists for the stats, it does figure them into the "man of the match" honors. This is actually an area of the game that i'm really happy with. I'm glad to see it'll give the right player the MoM even when he doesn't score, or if someone scores more than him. One of the things that bothers me most are the ratings. In Madden, if I draft a rookie QB and have him average over 300 yards passing a game, his ratings will increase dramatically for next season. Makes sence right? But in FIFA (also made by EA), I can score 60 goals with Landon Donovan in La Liga or England and his ratings won't go up a single point. That's ridiculous. It's worse when you consider that EA only made the big impovements to their basketball, football, and baseball games after Sega started successfully challenging them for market share. And while most people consider Winning 11 a better game, it's just not a serious enough threat to EA to warrant putting a real effort into improving FIFA. Always the optimist, Mike
I am in full agreement. It's frustrating not knowing how many shut-outs you have. I wish you could automatically be informed when you have achieved a season goal, kind of like in Tony Hawks pro skater.
-I ran into a new problem now that I have had the time to bring my 5 year compaign to the top flight (brought Cambridge up from the 3rd Division); -Let me know if anyone else has had a similar problem (it is weird and I can't explain it): -I have picked up many players over 4 seasons but had not noticed that all of them were either from other leagues or not starters on their teams (side note: Taylor Twellman is the best buy in the whole dam game). -So the problem arose when I entered the top flight (England) and picked up Saha from Fulham in the preseason (my roomate is a Man-U fan and wanted to pick him up). -We noticed really quickly that although Saha is now on our roster and not on Fulham's, he still acquires stats, appearances, and fatigue as if he's playing in Fulham's games. -And that is on top of the stats and fatigue he picks up from our games (We know this is a happening because he had stats before we even played our first game of the season, and only 9 field players on Fulham had been credited with an appearance after their first game). -While its funny that Saha will have twice as many appearances as any other player and god knows how good his stats will be (he'll have a lot of games to score in), it sucks because he gets twice the fatigue, and he can still get cards (has happened) and injuries (presume it could happen) from the 'phantom' Fulham games. -Has anyone else encountered this problem? (It seems to only happen if your team is playing in the same league/division as the team you acquired the player from -and obviously it would be more noticable if the player is a regular starter on their original team). -If this consistently happens, then it is another glaring mistake with this game.
I feel like the American players get hosed in general when it comes to player ratings. I think Guevara on the MetroScum is rated 82 which is the same for Donovan. Bocanegra is only a 60 and Ryan Nelsen is a 50. Gimme a break, someone who actually follows MLS needs to make these ratings.
Shutouts are tracked If you go to the stats section and then pull one of the triggers (at least on the xbox controller) it will take you to the team stats section and you can see a lot of things like how many shutouts you have as a team. It's actually pretty detailed, and it makes you wonder why they couldn't track assists or league leaders for you to look at for ALL leagues, even the one you are not even playing in. It's also a pain to have to unlock stadia and uniforms. All the other sports games don't make you do any of that. And I agree with Mellon002 that the MLS player ratings are off a good bit for most players, but at least I have noticed that on the whole the ratings for all players has improved since last year. -Von
Agreed. Switching back to a 1 thru 100 scale is welcome improvement that allows for much more interesting comparisons and debate.
