I've been told I'm up, so for the 7th round I select... Louanne Johnson for the movie Dangerous Minds. Iceblink has been PMed for his turn.
I've got no pic for this next one. This one is actually a real person... told of in a memoir... so no one truly knows for sure if he said all the things he said in the book... if he did everything he did in the book... Anyway, I choose this man because he taught Elie about the Kabbalah when everyone else thought he was too young. A man who was taken away from his home but managed to escape from the Nazis during the Holocaust... then was nice enough to come home to warn everyone... even though no one believed him.... I choose... Sighet, Romania's own......... MOCHE THE BEADLE!!!
Amateur archaeologist and expert in the cultivation of children's intelligence... Etheline Tenenbaum.
Yep, it's my turn. I'm going to go with Prospero, from the Tempest. He spends the whole play teaching the other characters about love, so he'll be my prof of supernatural psychology and human emotional manipulation.
Everyone needs a substitute teacher, right? Jonathan Shale from The Substitute Oh, and bungadiri, Prospero is a great pick. Why didn't I think of that?
I'm heading home from tennis practice now. I'll post my pick when I get online tonight. Feel free to skip me, as my last few choices are not likely to be chosen by anyone else.
For the first pick of round 8, I will continue to fill out my arts department. Teaching art prep will be none other than Basil Hallward, the painter who painted the picture of Dorian Gray (though, seeing as how he was stabbed to death, he might have a bit of a problem!) Round eight . . . Gotta go with someone who can fill more than one role for my university. And having sat next to a colleague from Psychology in an executive council meeting Thursday as we all discussed "strategic enrollment management" as he pointed out that Psych draws more majors than some other colleges on campus, I'd better be prepared there. So, needing someone in Psych but with dual degrees (also parapsychology) - AND preferably someone who speaks well to politicians (witness his dialogue with Lenny, the mayor of New York City) while not being "stiff" like other scientists (he's "more like a gameshow host" according to one person), I give you: DR. PETER VENKMAN! I can only assume that the grants he collaborates on with Dr. Egon Spengler and Dr. Ray Stantz move with him, and that all three will end up at my school. So it's really a triple pick - Drs. Venkman, Spengler, and Stantz.
For the 8th Round, Norsk Troll selects: Koro the leader of the Maori tribe in the movie Whale Rider, who teaches all the young boys the traditional ways of the Maori warriors. I'll put him in charge of cultural literacy.
The Slippery One, already with one pending pick, will be skipped. Thus, Howard Zinn is on the clock until 3:30AM
I think you are. Zinn was, but I don't know if he knows. In any case, his deadline has passed and the practice has been for the next person to go so I think you should feel free and he can fill in whenever, just like Slippery did.
It seems everyone has chosen a hot and sexy teacher... I want to jump on that bandwagon. I like this woman because she puts up with one seriously troublesome student. She has such patience. She also has a literary name, having been named after a character in The Screwtape Letters. And she is just smokin' hot... and she can pull off polka dots like no one else. From Calvin and Hobbes...... Mrs. Wormwood
I'm going to go away from the visual representations, and take a teacher from literature... Jack Gladney, Professor of Hitler Studies from DeLillo's White Noise.
There's a music teacher I'm really, really surprised hasn't been taken yet who would have been one of my first picks. I wish I'd signed up.
