Hey folks, Seeing as how the books forum and the movies forum have had such success with their recent "draft" threads, I thought I'd do what any good teacher would do and steal the idea. What would you guys think about doing a Fictional Faculty draft? The goal would be to pick any fictional educator (This can be from books or movies). We could go 10 rounds, so by the end of the draft, each player would have a 10 person "faculty." When the draft is over, we can have folks vote which school they would want to go to the most. Sound like something you folks would like to try? I would probably want to cap the number of participants at 10, so: 1- Jacen McCullough 2- GringoTex 3- Minorthreat 4- Norsk Troll 5- TheSlipperyOne 6- Howard Zinn 7- IceBlink 8- Anteaters FC 9- bungadiri 10- Via_Chicago
I don't quite understand the draft. Are you picking real people (writers, movie directors, etc.) to fill up a faculty, or are you going through books and movies to find fictional characters that you would want on a faculty? Either way, I want in.
Wicked. My knowledge of books and movies will not hold up to your fellas', but I'll give it the old college try.
Two more players and we can get started. As to grade level, as someone else said, I don't know that we could really specialize that much. As long as it is a fictional educator, it's fair game. I'm thinking of using the same rules as the book draft (12 hours from the time of the previous draftee's selection). I'm hopelessly torn between 3 fictional characters for 1st overall. I want all three, and I KNOW that none of them would fall to me in round 2. Hopefully, we'll have our final two drafters soon!
Question: Does the person have to be an educator in fiction, or are we selecting anyone from fiction to be an educator?
The former. For example, (trying to use characters that would never actually be chosen) Will Smith's character from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air would not be a fictional educator (regardless of how much you may have learned from him). His Aunt Vivian, as a college professor, would be ok. Edited to add that mentor types are fine as well.
Alright, that's tough for me. I may have to drop out at some point if I can't think of people, unless enough people join so I can be replaced before the start.
Sure! But I'd only be able to make picks for the first few rounds before having to hit the library to check out some things.
The person you mentioned would work under the "mentor" version of a teacher. I didn't name him specifically (and edited the name from your post), because I figured someone would want to select him. Do you want slot 9?
Yeah sure, why not. The other threads like this don't look as time consuming as I thought they'd be. I'll take slot 9 if it's being offered, thanks.
How long does each person have on the clock? I'm on the West Coast, so you snow people have all probably dug out your cars and are starting to get bored at work before I've even gotten out of bed. Does each person wait until someone makes a selection?
Wait, you're not saying they're fictional are you? Because every September I go to my kids' curriculum night hoping...
12 hours on the clock from the moment of the previous person's selection. That said, I'll give it until tomorrow afternoon for a 10th drafter to enter. If nobody else signs on by tomorrow, we'll go ahead with the 9 of us.
