Well, he was nicknamed "Robocop" by Benfica fans for his rough-and-tumble nature. I never really rated him, maybe for Leiria, but he doesn't have the skills needed to play for a club like Benfica.

is good enough to play for teams like Leiria, Beira-Mar, definettely good enough to play for Canada, one player the could adapt to the MLS.

    – Fernando Aguiar feliz com o regresso à Luz

    ASF

it proves again Osiek the canadian national team coach is blind or his best days are passed, for not calling a ex national team player special since he took over a couple years ago, special when Aguiar is on top of his game.

    Re: Re: Fernando Aguiar

The bigger reason would be more that Canada has an overloaded midfield as it is. Holger has a much deeper pool of good players to use.

I saw the Canadian team and none of the canadian midfielders can shine Aguiar shoes, trust me your coach is blind and the results are their for everybody to see.
The Goldcup was a fluke, was still Lennarduzzi team

Aguiar had his chance to prove himself and he didn't cut it.

The team was different when Holger took over. Those that were loyal to The Duze got dropped in favour of younger talent.

if you check Fernando Aguiar credentials, or check with the federation he refused a called to the national team because he rather play on a game against a Benfica rival, next year will see what is going to do in the Champions league.

According to Aguiar himself, the last time he was called he refused, since he was just breaking in with Benfica at that point. Take that for what it's worth.

Why he hasn't been called in since then (or if he has, then why he hasn't accepted) will remain a mystery.

I'm not sure I agree with this statement.

While I'd definitely place Aguiar above most of the Canadian midfield, to say none of them can shine his shoes is a tad extreme.

I'd say Fernando is about on par with Stalteri (although I think Stalteri is more versatile) and just above DeGuzman (who is also nearly 10 years younger than Aguiar and looks to become perhaps the best Canadian midfielder to come along in quite some time).

    Re

Topp Dogg, he's basing his comments on our Gold Cup performance. Holger didn't use de Guzman at all really till the final game and our play was not pretty. McKenna made the most of his opportunities and Stalteri was alright but our games against Ecuador and Martinique were awful. You'd have to think Aguiar would be a pretty sound alternative to Imhof (overrated IMHO), Hastings, Bent (coming off injury) or Dasovic (getting on a bit) as a defensive m/f. That's the midfield he saw with Stalteri and Brennan.

How old is the coach of Canada?
his methods are obsolete? who's the coach's at Toronto Lynxx and Montreal? I believe Toronto is Piz-------a ex Canadian international, could make a good coach.

The coach of Montreal is an American, Bob Lilley. The coach of Toronto is Peter Pinizotto, who never played for Canada & is absolutely not the right person to coach the Canadian national team.

If you are referring to Gold Cup results, yes they are there for everybody to see - 1st in 2000, 3rd in 2002, each time with a depleted roster (and Aguiar declined to participate in the 2002 Gold Cup). Not exactly the best evidence to point to.

I agree with you Aguiar could easily play for Canada & ideally it would be nice to have him in the squad, but there's just simply no way we would have won the Gold Cup with Lenarduzzi as coach. This is Bob Lenarduzzi we are talking about, the same coach who refused to even take a look at Tony Menezes, an extremely important member of the 2000 Gold Cup win (if you want a real example of a coach being blind).

that's nice to see a american doing a nice job at Montreal

I believe Aguiar is not the only one boycotting the team I believe other players in Europe have done the same, what I see here Canada needs a leader to bring all the canadians together.

very important for Canada to schedule their match's at same time of the other national teams, so they wouldn't have this problem.

how good is Fonseca a Portuguese coach in Vancouver? I believe he coach's in the tougher division with Portland, Seatlle and another team

their is a player name Valente on the Vancouver squad the I believe he his a Portuguese canadian with a lot good games, I belive he his a playmaker for the team, not sure.

Calgary Strom I don't see anybody

but going back to the title, players like Aguiar, Tomc----, should get opportunity to sure what can they do, the importance of a national team is to bring everybody back together, a good example is the way the USA handle their European stars.
