It has a 1970s/80s Cup-Winners' Cup kinda feel about it... We will be without Udogie, Son, Odobert, Richarlison, and Dragusin (suspended), which will stretch our thin squad even more. The decision to not include Spence in the European squad is looking more and more idiotic. Reguilon (remember him?) has made the trip.
We have a terrible recent away record in Europe. We have only won one of our last 9 away games in Europe.
Confirmed Tottenham XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Davies, Gray, Sarr, Bissouma, Bergvall; Werner, Lankshear, Moore. Subs: Forster, Austin, Dorrington, Van de Ven, Cassanova, Bentancur, Maddison, Kulusevski, Ajayi, Johnson, Solanke. After not even getting minutes as a sub, Lankshear starts tonight! And Mikey Moore. Not clear who is playing LB and who is playing CB, between Gray and Davies, but I guess it makes more sense to have Gray as the fullback / midfielder, even if he's never played on the left. Midfield pretty much as expected.
Crikey that is in at the deep end for Lankshear. It's virtually a U-21 side. I don't believe Moore has made a senior start, either.
This is what happens when you don't have a good summer transfer window. Here's hoping the kids play a blinder, but a club with our resources should never find itself in this kind of situation.
Not surprisingly, their first chance comes against our high line, one ball over the top releases Traore, who feeds a teammate at the edge of the box, but the shot sails high.
Werner with a good cross finds Lankshear, but the ball hits off his shoulder and bounces over the goal. Sarr creates space for a shot at the edge of the box, but the keeper saves.
Huge let off for Spurs! They have what looked like a good goal ruled out after a VAR check. Terrible defending from us.
Against the run of play, we take the lead. Moore involved in the build-up, Lankshear and Werner create chaos in the box, and from the resulting scramble, Sarr slots into the far post.
It was actually given offside in the build-up, but yes, they have definitely targeted the left side of our defense.
Nah, this is what happens when you spent most of your last couple of windows planning for the 25/26 season. The kids getting some real world experience. Angie showing trust so they don’t look elsewhere for playing time. I accept it could be a failure of a strategy, or Levy could cash in on them all, but it seems reasonable and I’m ok seeing how it plays out.
