Can''t find the times for this match in the USA or Canada, weird that Arsenal.com doesn't have them up yet. Either way, a return to European competition sees us travel to Switzerland to take on FC Zurich. Hopefully we see our boys learn their lessons from the match against those pricks who shall not be named last weekend, and we send out team capable of winning while resting key players for this fixture crunch we find ourselves in. I hope we see a B-Team looking to stake their claim in the A-Team with some youngsters involved and some firepower on the bench just in case. Ideally we should be looking just to get out of the group, avoid injuries and suspension and not risk the first team in games like this until deep in the competition. Time for guys in the periphery to step up and get it done and get game time into guys like Vieira, ESR, Nketiah, Tomiyasu, Tierney.
Assuming everyone is healthy, I would like to see... ------------- Eddie -------------- ??? -------------- Marquinhos ---- ESR ----------- Vieira ---- --------------- ??? --------------- Tierney - ??? - ??? - Cedric ------------- Turner ------------- LW - I'd be ok with Martinelli if Nelson isn't ready but wouldn't mind a youngster getting a call either DM - Thinking Sambi or maybe Matt Smith CB - I'd like to see Gabi get a rest so either 2 of Saliba/Tomi/White or possibly one of them plus a youngster
My guess is Arteta doesn't play kids or heavily rotate until he has clinched advancing from the group stage. Mikel Arteta will continue to field strong line-ups for Arsenal in Europe despite their injury worries | @johncrossmirror https://t.co/x7284urQG8— Mirror Football (@MirrorFootball) September 6, 2022
Lots of the same rhetoric two seasons ago and then we did things like start Xhaka at CB, Saka in central midfield, and actually played Runnarsson. We'll see some rotation - not enough if you're expecting a full XI change like it's Football Manager - but a lot of the core components will still be out there. I hope we give Saka, Odegaard, Jesus, and White some time off. Turner; Tierney, Gabriel, Holding, Tomiyasu; Sambi, Xhaka, ESR; Vieira, Martinelli, Nketiah That would be my ideal XI for this one.
Is ESR fit? Ornstein had the tweet about him leaving the post match cool down early Sunday. I feel like all of the Europa League type u21's either left permanently (Hutchinson) or on loan so the remaining u21s are even younger and less experienced than the ones that were available on the bench last year. I saw that Walters, who made the US tour, was not registered even though slots were open. Ideally get a 5 goal lead and take off those who will play vs Everton, give some debuts to Maquinos, etc. Has Smith debuted yet?
12:45pm ET on Paramount+ I guess I won't be watching our Europa League campaign this season. Paramount+???
Our last Europa League campaign was also on Paramount (then called CBS All-Access iirc). All European competition has been for two years now, and will be for another 8.
It’s $4.99/month. Pretty good deal for Champions League and Europa League, really. It’s an even better deal if you like Star Trek.
Well, then I guess I didn't watch that one either! Although in my defense, Arsenal was pretty unwatchable in general 2 seasons ago.
Tomiyasu and Holding in the center of the defense, Sambi at 6, ESR is rumored to be injured, so Arsenal may have to find a left 8 and a left wing.
Arteta confirmed ESR is out and he didn’t travel. Have to be seriously concerned about his fitness long term at this point.
wow. i'm shocked he's off again. i wonder if he might not be better off being given a longer break for a while like arteta did with martinelli.
lino sousa, a 17 year old kid we nabbed from west brom in january who has been playing for the U23 (last year, under betsy) and U21 (this year, under ali) is traveling with the team for this game. i'm assuming he's just insurance but that sounds like it means tierney is starting at left-back with maybe zinchenko being given more recovery time maybe? https://theathletic.com/3572936/2022/09/07/lino-sousa-arsenal-first-team/
He isn't registered for the Europa League, so he's just there for the experience. Eligible players are here: https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/match/2035953--zurich-vs-arsenal/lineups/
I think if you’re u21 you don’t have to be registered, but I agree he’s just there for experience. EDIT: And yet a bunch of u21’s are on the list, so maybe that’s not a thing anymore.
It's U21s who have been at the club for 2 years who can be added to the B-list (all the guys with asterisks). Since we signed Sousa in January, he'd need to be on the A-list.
It’s also on TUDN en Espanol if you get that channel. And CBSSN is showing their UEL Whiparound show during this time slot.
Pretty sure we’re going to be aiming to win our group. AFAIK if we finish second then we face a team comin out of UCL in the first knockout round.
