http://fctucson.com/team/new-stadium-announced/ good news for a team that would eventually make a good USL Pro team
Wow! Sexy! This is looking good. I hope to see Tucson FC in USLPro in the next few years. That would be great. Good work folks! I like that the county is really supportive of this too. - Mark
congrats! I know Des Moines was looking to build a SSS, but has any other PDL team every built their own stadium?
Oh, question. How much of the new stadium is to be built with county funds and how much is private funds? I didn't read all of the article, but it looked rather like all county money to me. Actually, I did read the whole article, it just doesn't say. So it is all county money? or is some of the cash coming from Tucson FC? - Mark
Its going to cost $2.8 million, and all of it is being paid by Pima County. http://azstarnet.com/sports/soccer/...cle_2b2c31b0-4893-5c6a-adc4-e50917867823.html
It is actually being paid by the Chicago White Sox. They broke their contract with the county for spring training. The county used some of that money to fund this project.
Excellent! I love it when soccer gets to steal money from baseball! I bet they are getting some money from MLS clubs that go to Tucson in winter too. At the very least, hotel fees, money spent in restaurants, and so on. Yeah, this is good for Tucson. - Mark
The main hotel benefiting from this is the Westin La Paloma. Yes, the tournament is sponsored by a casino/hotel/resort, but the teams stay at the Westin.
The city and county benefit from the hotel taxes no matter where the teams stay. And the guys have to eat, and I bet they take in some of the local sites and attractions. This should work out well for the city and county. Oh, and very cool that they are already thinking expansion. I'm impressed. - Mark
Haven't heard of any members of KC going to the Sonoran Desert Musuem, Old Tucson, BK's/El Guero Canelo, Sabino Canyon, or Pinnancle Peak. But they have been taking in 4th Avenue, University Blvd, and the U of A women.
Sadly, the last time I was in Tucson, I was too young to take in 4th Avenue, University Blvd, or the U of A women, but I sure wanted to. So I must confess to several trips to the Sonoran Desert Museum and Old Tucson. - Mark

Pima County is planning on expanding the stadium to 5k (from 2k) by 2016 (if the bond project passes). http://webcms.pima.gov/common/pages/UserFile.aspx?fileId=40611
