If anyone is more inspired, feel free to change the title! The second half today was pretty impressive...especially with the number of upsets going on elsewhere!
YES! New thread. 6 Bundesliga teams out in the first round (lets hope for 7 tomorrow ) As far as the game, the players on this team always find a way to score. Draxler and Holtby almost lull the opponent to sleep and then strike with blistering pace. We sit back and counter once we gain the lead. Its the saame thing we saw last year. It won't win us the Bundesliga, but it can be damn fun to watch. Let's just hope we can carry this momentum into week 1.
Oh, yes, nice game. Some slight problems in the first 10-15Mins but after that we took over. Neustädter impressed me the most (no, wasn't the best player though). He played some very tidy passes to open up the field. Lets hope he can do that against stronger opposition.
It's great to have Neustädter and Jones, especially with the CL games this fall. Depth at CM is always important.
Looks like Baumjohann and Annan may yet be on their way out one way or another. Stories regarding a Huntelaar extension have dried up recently...which may not be a bad sign.
Yeah, I saw the rumor on schalker-block5. 'Lautern, right next to our previous victim, FC Saarbrücken
It is now official. Baumjohann joins Kaiserslautern. Not much information about a tranfer fee, I'LL be glad if we don't have to subsidise Baumjohann's salary. http://www.schalke04.de/aktuell/new...-alexander-baumjohann-loesen-vertrag-auf.html
SHOCKINGLY, all of that talk about mega clubs swooping in with big money for Papa hasn't come to pass.
I don't thinkt so. The offer was shot down immediatly by Papadopoulos who said he didn't want to leave the club. The whole episode was very short lived. Granted I don't know how much effort Milan put into it to convince Papa.
I guess not. Somehow I'm not worried about the Hannover match, I'm pretty sure we'll win. Of course I have no deeper reason why I believe that besides being a Schalke fan. ^^ The cup draw was tonight. We will have a home match, which is nice, against Sandhausen, which is boring. Sandhausen is in its first year in the 2.Bundesliga, I think. Guess its something like playing Hoffenheim before they got famous. Wonder how many fans they will bring with them. 100?
Disappointing to have dropped 2 points, but the second half was definitely the best entertainment of the first round.
Yeah, nice game, though I didn't like the way Jones played. He should be used as a dmid exclusively. What disappointed me the most was the first goal. Set pieces were a major weakness last season, I think we conceded 20 goals or so after them. I hoped Stevens would have practised them to no end, just reducing that number by 10 would have been a major improvement and quite possible. Well Panders free kicks are otherworldly, so hopefully we see better outcomes in the next matches.
Agreed about Jones. I'm not quite sure what Stevens was thinking. It was disappointing, but Hannover has been ridiculously strong at home. I'm a little bit nervous about Wolfsburg this year. I feel like we really can't afford to drop points. Next week we need a win at home.
So what is the likelihood of Holtby leaving this week? I mean will Schalke look to sell, considering that if they don't he will be available on a free next season?
I never heard of any serious interests in Holtby this summer, so I'd be very surprised if we sell him. An extension looks more probable though Heldt is pretty slow (or patient) when it comes to them. On that note Heldt confirmed that St Petersburg made an offer for Papadopoulus. Bild says its about 13Mio €, Beiersdorfer, Zenit's sport director, apperently confirmed it. If they up it to 15Mio or even more, I guess we should sell him. That is a lot of money for a central defender. Even one as young and talented as Papa. I agree with Wolfsburg. They have a nice, talented (and very, very, very deep) squad if Dost can be a credible goal threat and Magath keep being on the good terms with Diego. I watched a part of the Stuttgart Wolfsburg match, too. Stuttgart looked pretty good to me, they have a decent squad. If Ibisevic and Harnik can keep scoring like last season, they'll be damned good. Well, Jones fancies himself more of an offensive player at the beginning of each season. It is really every year the same thing "I want to play more offensively..." (and not the bad way). In the end he plays a 6, that's where he belongs, no where else.
Would like to see Papa hang around...but if the offer gets up to 15 million, I couldn't blame the club for cashing in.
I wonder if we could use that money to get a right back. Uchida just isn't quite CL quality. Im not worried about CB long term. It sounds like our youth teams will provide CB cover in the future.
"Liverpool target" Huntelaar to make decision soon http://www.insidefutbol.com/2012/08...ses-decision-on-schalke-contract-soon/67810/?
Would Liverpool outbid us? I have some doubts about it, we would pay Huntelaar really really well. Winning trophies won't be easier with them either.
I know its unlikely, but what happens if Huntelaar goes to Liverpool? We'll be extremely short on talent up front. There's no way I trust Marica and Pukki to have the same presence. Would Heldt line up a deadline day deal?
