FC Montreal - USL Pro Team The Montreal Impact became the second MLS club to create its own USL Pro team, club president Joey Saputo announced this Thursday. The new team, called FC Montréal, is set to start playing next season against LA’s sister team and other affiliates such as Richmond Kickers (D.C. United) and Rochester Rhinos (New England Revolution). This USL Pro team, which has no head coach yet, is part of a broader orientation to better nurture Québécois talent. FC Montréal, Saputo said, will be mostly made up of young, local players from the Impact’s U18 and U23 teams. “Our U16 and U18 teams have had exceptional seasons,” Saputo told reporters. “In its first year, our Pre Academy is making great progress. We’ll carry on along those lines, and we must provide a better framework for our youngsters so their transition to MLS is easier and more natural. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2014/09/montreal-usl-pro-team
Well said and well done. Suddenly within the stretch between Ottawa-Gatineau to Montreal there will be D1, D2, and D3 North America US/CAN pro soccer clubs. filtering up through two well structured Academies. Vancouver is on track to have its USL Pro club run by the D1 MLS club with the city of New Westminster and two local investors marketing the club. In Toronto TFC will likely be next to get its USLPro club run in similar fashion with Hamilton with an NASL D2 club agreement on the table after a full season and PanAm soccer at THF in 2015. FCE sits alone in the prairies rite now with just talks and rumors of other clubs. Although a lot of this was just talk but moved very quickly. 2013 saw just 4 pro soccer clubs in Canada. Counting on the likelihood of Vancouver going through and TFC as well having its own club in the USLPro if not in 2015 than almost for sure 2016. 2015 will see now 7 pro clubs. With Toronto and Hamilton good chance to add to the mix withing the next 2 to 3 years
I find it funny that FC Montréal has a better crest and identity then the parent club. Impact has a minor league name ring to it.
interesting point. Perhaps would one day call for a slight rebranding from the Impact to FC Montreal for the MLS club as well
Don't count on it. People are used to the name Impact, and no one in MTL sees it as anything but a legit name. It's been part of the sporting landscape for 20+ years.
As long as it is legit and solidified part of the Landscape for the fans in Montreal that is really all that counts
I dont think so. The PDL U-23 side is still and important piece of the system with Academy and other players who are still in the University path. Players will still use their talents to obtain scholarships and college degrees. PSL provides a summer extension keeping amatuer status while still developing for the pro level as well as the U23 National team. the pro minor league club is gap being filled in addition to the U23 level. USL Pro will allow players to go pro earlier as well as still operating as a minor league club for players of any age. Drafted and other free agent players as well as homegrown players will make up USL Pro roster with either MLS contracts assigned or with USLPro minor league contracts.

He was previously the coach of the under-17 team within the development structure. Gagnon will be supported by Eduardo Sebrango, who will serve as assistant coach and specific coach for individualized work. CF Montreal also announced that its assistant coach Francesco Morara will assume a role as a liaison between the reserve team and the team in Major League Soccer (MLS). He will also serve as technical supervisor with the educators of the other teams in the academy. The club says the appointment will create more synergy in player development between Montreal and Bologna, Italy. Morara was head coach of Bologna FC’s under-15 team until last September, when he was hired by the MLS team. — This report was first published in French by The Canadian Press on Feb. 11, 2022.

Montreal was NOT in the list of clubs joining MLSNP in 2023 so the assumption is they will stay where they are for at least one more year.
