Are you guys tired of the big clubs like PSG, OL, OM, ASM, ASSE, etc. Probably not but let's hear from the little guys that very few care about. In this very thread, I'll be talking about my hometown club, le FC Mantois 78. Originally, it's a Mantes-la-Ville club. Well, you may ask: where the ... is Mantes ? It's a suburb twin city (you have 2 Mantes: one is la-Ville, the other is la-Jolie) in the Yvelines about 30 miles from the City of Lights. Well, then you may ask: what the ... is Yvelines ? well, it's a 'departement' (78 if you like numbers) and the town of Versailles (of Louis XIV fame) is where all the admin action is. Ok, enough with this geo intro. let's see the history of that great club ... Taken and translated from (I did not ask for permission ... I hope he does not mind): http://membres.lycos.fr/jlmar/rcp/ Created in 1953, le CA Mantes-la-Ville (original name, aka CAMV) has its glory days in beginning of 70s, when it plays 4 seasons in Division 2, even finishing 6th twice. Two 1/8 final de Coupe de France were icing on the cake (not translated but sounds good). Relegated in 1975, Mantes starts a downward spiral, which brings the club to DH (division d'honneur) in 80s, then DHR (honneur regional) in 90s. Le FC Mantois 78 is created in 1994, from merger with (mainly) AS Mantes (in Mantes-la-Jolie) and some other small clubs. The club then climbs back the ladder and is now in CFA (right below national which is right below D2 which is right below the holy grail of D1). The president is the great Philippe Quimbel. This taken from: http://www.rsssf.com/players/trainers-fran-clubs.html to show the coaches (pretty stable, huh) FC Mantois 78 1953 : Club Athlétique Mantes-la-Ville 1993 : CAMV + ASM (Mantes-la-Jolie) + AS Buchelay [1953; Stade Léo Lagrange / Stade Aimé-Bergal (ex Stade des Merisiers)] 1971-75 D2 1966-76 Norbert Boucq 1976-77 Daniel Rodighiero 1977-79 Robert Melloni 1994-* Alain Polaniok That's it for the intro post. Can FC MANTOIS access NATIONAL. Tune in regularly to follow this incredible saga ! iougs-

You have 4 CFA groups:A,B,C and D 18 clubs per group At end of season, for each group: top club that is not the reserve of a pro team goes up to National. Reserves never go up, they always stay there. Last 3 clubs go down to CFA2 So, as of today, FCM 78 would go up, yeah. iougs-
Above is the Pont de Mantes by Monet Above is the goalkeeper, Fousseyne Tangara, of the Mali national team ... That's right .. A national team member playing for a CFA team. Wish they would use the old colors. You can see the typical standing room only crowd FC Mantois web site is: http://as-mantaise.asso.fr/sections/football/jc_foot.htm all in french of course and not updated too often. iougs-
Whats their stadium like ? Whats their attendence ? Do they have the potential to be the 2nd 1st division Paris team ? Looks like Creteil, Racing, and ESSG have the leg up on them right now to be the 2nd Ligue 1 Paris area team.
They also got eliminated 2 weeks ago at the first round (for them) of the coupe de France by the neighbour, Porcheville, 3 divisions below. Too bad, coupe de France games usually bring monies to small clubs. Attendance is about 500 to 1000 per game, which is average I'd say for a CFA team. Stadium was built for D2. So it's fair to say then it would be good for up to D2. Mantes is too far from Paris to be a Paris team and it has its own decent size stadium. But it could be a good D2 north-west (of Paris) team that would attract pple from S-E Normandy. A true Paris team would be Racing Paris, Paris FC or (maybe) Red Star. But I believe they should merge at least 2 of them together to be viable. The stadium should be near a subway stop for pple to come, meh thinks. Pple would not take the RER to go to a game on a saturday night outside Paris, meh thinks. If it is easy access with a car, maybe, but you know Paris traffic and parking is quite awful. iougs-
If you like "smaller teams" then I'll suppose I'll tell you about my local team. CSM Gennevilliers. We currently play in the Regional "Hautes-de-Seine Excellence league." Their are 6 divisions in total. (Excellence, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) Technically its the same level that your beloved Mantois play their third team in. (well only the Yvelines district.) We tradionally wear a black and white kit similar to Newcastle (or Juventus.) Although its more white and or black on the kit, rarely striped. We play some of our home games at le Stade Louis Boury. But usually our ground is the Parc des Sévines, where most league games take place. Currently we are second in the table, after 5 games. Won 3, drawn 2. http://www.csmgfootball.fr.st/ We also have our very own training ground in co-operation with the local council......
NO NO NO !!! I don't wanna see any of those 3 teams merge with each other. My dream is to someday have PSG, Racing, Red Star and Paris FC all in the 1st division at the same time. Hey, 20 years from now who knows what could happen.
Paris FC are the so called bigger and more prestious team. When we split. They stayed in the top-flight, whilst we clawed ourselves up from the lower leagues to become the mighty PSG we love today... I would prefer to see them back in the league as it would be a bit more spicier for PSG.
FCM lost this week-end at home, so I won't update. I'll update only if they win or tie. Otherwise, forget it. NO POINTS, NO POSTS. That's my motto and that's the way it's gonna be. iougs-
