Leagues Cup round of 32. If the match is tied at the full 90 it goes straight to PKs to determine who advances. The winner gets the winner of the Toluca v Houston match. FC Juárez is a relatively new Liga MX side having been founded in 2015 in the wake of the collapse of their predecessor, Indios de Ciudad Juárez. In Liga MX they currently sit in 15th with one draw and four losses. However, in Leagues Cup play they won their group beating FC Dallas 2-0 and drawing with StL 1-1 before winning 4-2 on PKs.
2-1 win, goals by Mihailovic and Bassett. I think the Rapids might be a better team than Juarez right now and they have the home advantage. I think that gives them enough to overcome the fatigue, but it will be close. I wouldn't be shocked to see another shootout. https://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2024/08/juarez-in-knockouts.html
Wow. What an ending. If you told me at the beginning of the season we’d win the RMC, AND make it to the round of 16 in the leagues cup? I’d say you were crazy. Yet here we are! True grit by the burgundy boys out there tonight. What. A. Game.
Shoo-wee was that a match! Leagues Cup classic right there. That game had a little bit of everything. Again, Steffen was outstanding. We are seeing the USMNT version of Steffen. the Big Dane and Big Hair combo at CB had some huge game saving moments. Mahailovic was his typical influential self and Navarro was a pain in Juarez’s ass all night. Not a perfect game. Far from it. But man…. that excitement and never say die attitude that’s been displayed all season in MLS and Leagues Cup play is infectious. Keep this going, boys!
This team are playing phenomenal, fight, fight fight. They dont give up and like the announcer said Armas doesn't go defensive in his subs when ahead. This team is a real team and will fight tool and nail to win. SO PROUD OF YOU RAPIDS!! Bring home the cup!
I know it’s neither here nor there now that the game is over - but I’ve always found it strange that if a player or coach in the technical area get a red card, the team doesn’t have to go down to 10 men. Would encourage coaches to not scream at the 4th and/or match officials so much - like we saw last night. Juarez assistant was shown red (justifiably), but his actions don’t hurt the team at all. Meanwhile, his actions pretty clearly delayed the substitution of Loffelsend as he and other Juarez staff were swarming the match and 4th officials. Pretty sure I also saw that the Rapids had to move Loffelsend away from the substitution zone to get away from the melee. So while Juarez’s staff had a direct negative impact on the game for the Rapids, it did nothing to their team’s chances in the game. If a player or coach on the sideline receives a red and the team on the pitch goes down to 11, it would massively curtail the bad behavior we often see on the sidelines. Just a thought.
Also on this topic, Pretty sure it's a FIFA rule that it's a card offense for a player to simulate a opponent should be carded, I dislike that crap (although player "diving" more so). I also wish it was card-able when multiple players swarm a Ref, only Captain should be able to and card the rest. Tired of that nonsense too.
Another crazy match. Juárez was giving the Rapids fits with the high pressure and was quick on thee counter. But of course it was the Rapids that scored first when Navarro nicked the ball from a defender on the end line and then pulled the ball back to Lewis who had an easy pass in. Thought both PKs awarded were correct. Also, for me Steffen was again the MotM. These last two matches he's looked like an Olympic gymnast.
