http://www.fcedmonton.com/news/2011-10-12/FC Edmonton Releases Eleven Eleven released, eleven retained. I wonder if any of the several Montreal players waived this past week are looking to Edmonton for a new start?
Good news, that makes 15 players under contract then with the 4 that were already under contract for next year. Any news on Rhien Baart? I know he's 39 years old so I don't think he will be back for next year.
Baart and team have parted ways. It would seem Parker & Monsalve are the tandem for next year. Also, FCE has exercised it's option on Matt Lam (loaned to JEF United in Japan in 2011). There likely won't be word on Lam until after JEF United's season is up, but he hasn't been playing much.
http://the11.ca/2011/10/18/baart-wont-be-coming-back-to-fc-edmonton/ Asst coach gone and Chin re-signed as well. They offered a player-coach position to Baart. Interesting.
Rein Baart Leaves FC Edmonton FC Edmonton announced last week that veteran goalkeeper Rein Baart and assistant coach Edwin Petersen will not be with the club in 2012. Baart, 39, who joined the club in 2010 and played in several of the the Eddies’ exhibition games that year prior to beginning league play in 2011, declined a player/coaching contract offer from the club, while Petersen returns to the Netherlands to work for the national team’s operations. Baart played in 24 matches for the Eddies in 2011. “Both Edwin and Rein were integral in the success FC Edmonton enjoyed in its inaugural professional season and will be extremely tough to replace,” said general manager Tom Leip. “We wish Edwin all the best as he continues on with the Dutch federation and we are certain Rein will land on his feet somewhere and continue his career as a coach or player.”
FCE has reassembled remaining players and is running a camp between now and mid-Dec. http://the11.ca/2011/10/31/while-fc-edmonton-gets-back-to-work-lance-parker-rehabs-in-miami/ A few new names have come up recently such as former Impact defender (and French national) Kevin Hatchi. He apparently posted a FCE logo on his Facebook page. No official word on his connection to FCE. As well, a couple U17 national team players - Sadi Jalali (Canadian) and Kianz Froese Gonzalez (Cuban, but Canadian resident) - are training with the team while waiting for work visas to play in Germany.
Hans Schrijver Returns as Assistant Coach with FC Edmonton http://nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=1546 Apaprently, Dwight Lodeweges (ex-head coach of FCEd) and Schrijver failed to keep the Japanese team afloat that they left Edmonton for. Now Schrijver is back. Interesting.
I like the way the Eddies have developed their team with young players. Seems like they are continuing the process they started last year. Now can they just find another field/stadium? Please...
Three FC Edmonton players called up to Canada’s Olympic Training Camp http://boxscorenews.com/three-fc-ed...o-canadas-olympic-training-camp-p31618-68.htm
A lot of action at FC Edm training sessions over the winter. The11.ca has been doing excellent work in profiling recent additions and keeping abreast of trialists. Here are a few: Goalkeeper Michal Misiewicz, who most recently played club football in Poland with Polonia Bytom and is also a former Canadian U-17 and U-20 player, is on trial. Barry Rice, a former DC United defender, and big Congolese defender/holding midfielder Ladi Bushiri are at training camp. Elvir Gigolaj was a standout goal scorer during Canadian Intercollegiate Sport finals, where his St. Mary's Huskies took silver. French defender and former Montreal Impact, Kevin Hatchi arrived in camp. Matt Lam is back from JEF United of the Japanese league, though is recovering from shoulder surgery In other news, FCE signed a deal with Adidas, after the previous two seasons with Umbro. They also continue to look to local talent, in coaching also. They have brought Jeff Paulus into the coaching fold. As recently as last year, he won a National college championship for Edmonton's NAIT (collegiate - ACAC conference).
FC Edmonton has inked a loan deal with Chilean striker Yashir Pinto. His rights are owned by Colo-Colo but was on loan last year to Deportivo Ñublense S.D.A.P of Chile Primera B (5 goals in 20 appearances). He's was also a member of Chile's U20 team (nov2010-feb2011) where he scored 3 goals in 14 appearances. Edmonton has quite a large Chilean community as was witnessed at the FIFA 2007 U20 World Cup. A Chilean prospect among FCE should spark some interest from that community. It should also be interesting to see how the new striker will fit with the systems of the Dutch coaches.
He's a friend of Kevin Hatchi's. Was once a U20 player for France but never did much more than some games in Ligue 1. We'll see if that's enough to equate into a contract at FCE.
Pinto did not pass the medical and has returned to Chile. Details about the medical were not released but the club remains optomistic that the loan agreement can still happen at a later time.
