They have a train going through Frisco right by the old cotton gin. There's talk of turning that line into a Dart rail someday.
Is there a link? I don't mean to be a jerk, I just really want to know if this is true or just a rumor that the Observer is tossing around to drum up support for or something
I think they want it to happen but it's complicated because many cities have paid the extra tax money into Dart for years and no one knows how to let new cities in that haven't.
Exactly. BTW, how many know that DART has more rail miles than any other city in the country? Of course not every metro area is the size of Rhode Island.
It's an interesting factoid, but I'd be much more intrigued to learn the percentage of Metroplex residents that live within 1 mile of a non-car, non-bus transit option. I'd then like to compare it to the same number from the old east-coast metro areas, the shiny-happy ones in SF Bay and points north, and other car-era sun-belt metros. I wonder if we even stack up all that well against the last group (looking at YOU, Arlington).
I've seen a proposed DART expansion map that shows the line he's talking about with a station just a few hundred yards from the east entrance. The rails are already there, so it really wouldn't be that hard if there was the political will to do it.
throw in a special, inexpensive, matchday railpass for fans (allows rail travel for the cardholder only on matchdays for an annual fee) and that would make a HUGE difference. Hell, throw one in for free (or at least roll in the cost) with season tickets to those who want one, FCD
There's the possibility that it could be a huge flop. But then, there's the more likely possibility that it's an extra 2-5k a game.
People going to the stadium for concerts....people going into Dallas for games/concerts who don't want to pay tolls....seems like a winner
I'd do it. Ride I mean. Not complain. Unless I got drunk downtown and had to take a leak around Lake Highlands.
Another article in the DaMN Metro section. Clock ticking for rail plan. Says it depends on creation of a special district next legislative session and a whole lot of communities cooperating. It is a 62 mile corridor from Plano to Fort Worth (notice it doesn't say Frisco).
Anybody praising DART rail hasn't used it lately. It's just a tram for hookers. Fair Park sucks. HSG sucks. Maybe FCD should go back to Fair Park now that I think about it.
