I've heard this stat a couple of times recently. If I remember correctly, this goes back to last season as well (and maybe the season before? I've slept since then.) But I don't hear an explanation for why this is. Is it because FC Dallas moves the ball so much through the midfield? They play so much at their feet and avoid the long balls to the front? They have "kick me" signs on their jerseys? I know how much Ferreira gets fouled when he's out there, but given his absence I'm a little surprised that this remains true. What's the deal? What's most frustrating about this stat is that the refs lately are sitting on their yellow cards, so FC Dallas isn't even seeing the benefit of being the recipient of these fouls.
I think I read that we're the most fouled team and the most punished team. Go figure. My theory is that teams have the playbook on how to shut us down. Give us a few kicks and watch us self-destruct. Why deviate from the plan if it works?
I know this is homer comment, but the refs dont seem to be sitting on their cards when it comes to punishing FCD. I dont know if anyone has the research on the cards given per foul or some other revealing ratio, but i cant think that it in anyway shows an advantage for dallas. I wonder if their is a stat for injuries caused by fouls that were not called. I'm sure Dallas would be number one in that stat also.
You know, red cars get pulled over more often than other colors... Maybe it's a similar situation and we should wear the blue ones more often... Cowboys have bad luck in one jersey, why not FCD too? lol
While FCD is the most fouled team in the league by a clear margin, I was shocked to see we basically lead the league in most fouls committed (two behind the leader with one more game played than Montreal). http://www.mlssoccer.com/stats/team?sort=desc&order=FS
I'm a firm believer in - Don't just beat your opponent, beat the hell out of your opponent. Even when I coach kids and the game is chippy I remind them at half time You can take it or you can dish it out. You decide. FCD needs to start beating the hell out of some bitches. Let's start with Chicago.
It doesn't help that FCD is absolutely horrendous on dead balls. Two years ago, it was commit the early foul and prevent the speedy talented team from countering you. Or kick Ferreira in the shins until he can't walk, much less run. Now maybe it's just foul them and watch Hernandez send an ifk 20 yards over your keeper.
To bad you don't have a stat. for most uncalled fouls suffered AND most fouls suffered and not earned a card. I watch plenty of soccer. Something doesn't smell right. You can't tell me that KC, Philly, and Houston aren't the first busts on Mount Hackmore.

Take notice of the yellow cards/red cards ratio, fouls committed/red card, and games played/red card. All of which Dallas is the best or worst at. Dallas has had players suspended a total of 9 games. That is roughly 1.5 games played per suspension. The closest team to that is Philadelphia at 2 GP/suspension, followed by Houston and New York at 3 GP/suspension. Crappy upload. Sorry.
I think I saw that stat quoted too, but it seems like FC Dallas is suffering the consequences as a result, in terms of yellows and reds handed out. My concern is that over the last couple of games we've seen refs sit on 2nd yellows for the opposing team that would have changed the game, and which were clearly deserved by the offending player. But as to the comment about punishing the other team with your play (as opposed to whining to the league) then yeah that is the way to go, but FC Dallas is hurting for guys who can do that who can get on the field right now.
could it be we are simply the dumbest team when it comes to how to commit fouls ? Opposing teams hack us to pieces with 'smart' (usually uncalled) fouls, and we retaliate with 'not so smart' (and more obviously cardable) fouls. Or FCD has developed a reputation for diving players and the refs are overcompensating. Or we are always attempting to bring in highly skillful, but fragile players (e.g. Ferreira) and best way to neutralize these players is to hack them to pieces (not a good selling point for MLS refereeing IMHO).
Maybe the problem lies in the Butts-In-Seats statistics. I am thinking out loud, that a team that doesn't have the high profile status, or the new investment in facilities buzz maybe gets 2nd class treatment?
Maybe FCD gets fouled because they hang onto the ball too long. I think the points others have made about set plays is also a factor. make the other team pay and they won't foul as much.
False. If you sort by Fouls Committed (http://www.mlssoccer.com/stats/team?sort=desc&order=FC), you will observe no clear pattern based on attendance or perceived "big club" status. Which is exactly what you would expect to see unless you believe in conspiracies. Houston with its new stadium is indeed at the bottom, but Toronto with no new facility is right down there with them. What do they actually have in common that would help to explain their lack of fouls committed? They've played the fewest games. LAG, SEA, and NYRB, with their perceived big club status, are all in the top half of the fouls committed table. So is Montreal, with its expansion team buzz. There is no evidence of a ref conspiracy against FCD. It's tempting to try to blame our problems on others, but misguided.
