Well..lineups can change on a dime and the Bayern site has been notorious in the past for the ever-changing lineup. Obviously, some players might pick up a knock or two before the game.

The pre-season cup is pretty tame and gratuitous anyway.

Interesting that Bayern would be privvy to VfB's starting line-up a day before the match even begins.

karimis is defensively minded in games usually, liek with iran, thats why he doesnt attack much lately, always helping out defence, wouldnt be a bad spot

Tad bit disappointed that Mehmet Scholl is not mentioned in the starting XI. He has to be the third or fourth leading scorer in the pre-season... which means nothing I know, but still (!!)... not to mention he sets up just about every other goal we score.

Either way, I say DON'T start Ballack until he sorts his contract out... insert Scholl for Ballack in that lineup. Sorry Michael, as much as we love you, you are certainly making things harder on yourself by not finalizing this contract and pissing off your other mates who need their contract extended as well. Get on with it already....

I think that's because Scholl is in the same spot as Jeremies. Being phased out and only still around because Bayern are loyal to their "good soldiers".

Were Scholl still thought to be someone who can greatly help the squad, I don't think they would have signed Karimi.

Ballack is looking at all his options. We know the deal. If Ballack starts the season with Bayern, I think the chances of his staying after the season are 98.9%.

If Ballack doesn't extend before the end of the week, I think they sell his ass.......

This cup doesn't really mean anything. They are probably playing him..to make him happy. What else is the purpose??? He just got back from summer vacation and they are not starting Deisler or Piggy.

:D All I know is whatever lineup Magath puts on the field I want to see MAKAAY, LUCIO, ISMAEL, DEISLER and SCHWEINSTEIGER. As long as we have those guys as constants throughout the year I don't mind who else plays. I personally would also like to see LAHM in the lineup as well once he is healthy. I hope though that KARIMI, OTTL, and HARGREAVES play as well. Ballack, who knows what will happen to him, and Ze Roberto I am tired of. Brazzo is pretty good, as well as Scholl. :D

no way, if anything Ballack is going to be more defensive and Karimi more offensive, good line up though, this is better:

    --------------------Kahn--------------------------------
    Sangol------------Isamel-------Lucio--------------------------Lizarazu
    -----------------------Ballack---------------------------------
    Salihamidzic-------------------------------------Hargreaves
    -----------------------Karimi----------------------------------
    -------------Makaay-----------------Santa Cruz-------------

same thing but just switch Karimi and Ballack

Brazzo and Owen are definetley not starting on the wings.....Deisler and Schweinsteiger if anything.....Santa Cruz might just start though.

What the heck are either of you guys talking about???

First of all it will probably look like this

    ---------------Makaay--------------Santa Cruz-------------
    ------------------------Ballack-----------------------------
    -----Karimi-------------------------------Sallihamidzic------
    ----------------------Hargreaves---------------------------
    ----Lizarazu----Ismael--------Lucio-------Sagnol-----------
    ------------------------Kahn------------------------------

That is the lineup Bayern had posted. Karimi is a strong player on the left side offensively. Hargreaves position is defensive midfield. Ballack is an attacking midfielder, and in the CL last year Brazzo played pretty well on the right side. I AM SURE AS HECK GLAD TO SEE ISMAEL PLAYING DEFENSE IN PLACE OF KOVAC!!!! Kovac was not only smaller, weaker, and slower, but he gave up the header to fricken Drogba in the CL in Munich this past CL. If you don't believe me catch a clip of the highlights for the game!!!

no, Karimi will be central/forward midfield, I think Maghat will try our Balack in defencive midfield, to see how Karimi-Balack play in that way

    With the exception of Hargreaves.

I wonder if it will stay that way

    .................Kahn
    Sagnol...Lucio...Ismael...Lizarazu
    ............Hargreaves
    Deisler....................Schweiny
    ..............Ballack
    ......Makaay....Santa Cruz

Good lineup, no suprises...remember, however, that KICKER is not the OFFICIAL source for lineups, and have been known for their errors as well. I will be anxious to see how Santa Cruz, Hargreaves, and Ismael perform. Karimi will come on in the second half I think.
