He was in the centre the first half .. but far more involved in the second

I didn’t see it. The lack of involvement that is. Everyone was doing so great it was like a breath of fresh air. This is definitely the way forward even if against a poor Villarreal.

This was our best performance in a long time. I actually enjoyed watching this game which I can't say for most of last season! No more "Give the ball to Messi and pray."

I don't think you guys need Depay anymore. You got plenty of attack on the wings, and up the middle

Nothing against Depay as he’s a good player and all, but I never thought we really needed him. Never could figure out how he’d fit in.

8 minute highlights with English commentary of the Ray and Phil variety, then a bizarred last 15 seconds of something else:

We need a CF , Griezmann just doesn't fit to play there , and a RB because we can't just attack from the left side every single time.

De Jong is quite average. Have we been scammed?

What's his real position. He is tidy in possession but don't see where the value of his fee is.

    Or are you being sarcastic.

he's playing in exactly the same position and formation that he played with Ajax and the Netherlands

Those line ups don’t show where they play :)

I only saw him dropping back taking the ball off one of the CBs ( usually off De Ligt ) oddly enough - then setting off all the attacks from that deep lying position .

Busqs is playing that role currently as he has done for the last ten years

The fact that FdJ would score semi regularly for Ajax makes me doubt that his position was rigidly identical to that of Busquets. Strikes me more as a box to box MFer.

Yes I’d agree up to a point .. I don’t see FDJ dropping that deep and collecting the ball off our CBs though .. because Busqs does that job

Thing is, we know he has the talent on this level because we have all seen it in the CL. He dominated the midfield vs every top team Ajax faced. As a result he was named the best midfielder in that tournament.

It’s early days with Koeman and Frenkie has definitely been instrumental for the Dutch NT which was managed by that same coach. Let’s see if we can get the Frenkie we all saw in the 18/19 CL campaign under Koeman.

Yeah, FdJ is the least of my concerns along with goalkeeper. People reading way too much in Frenkie's first season at Barca. Nobody can look amazing in that context. The same can be said of our regular CBs and Suarez btw.
