Re: Philadelphia the reason why Miami bid ended? Barca interest in Philly (SBJ 3/16/09) Great find. It will be interesting to see if we hear anything else about this going forward.
Re: Philadelphia the reason why Miami bid ended? Barca interest in Philly (SBJ 3/16/09) Sounds good...as long as we could steal some of their players. haha.
If this actually comes through as possibly happening, that would be huge for the new club both monetarily and player wise. What aspiring talented US youth wouldnt want to play for the club that has Barca watching over it. Plus it could set up for some fun to watch friendlies that would sell out for sure.
This explains the delay. The "AC" in AC Philadelphia will stand for "American/Catalonian" to reflect Barca's involvement. As long as this means Johan Cruyff is the first coach, I'm down with it.
maybe messi could be our DP for 3months during barca's offseason. (sarcasm anyone?) this is a nice idea to think about, it will be interesting to see what happens. i believe that one of the big changes in the new CBA is going to be ending the single entity format where all players are contracted to MLS. so if that happens and players are signing contracts with PhillyMLS, that would allow us to take more advantage of "sharing players" with barcalona.
This is most interesting. I wonder what the nature of the partnership would be. Would it be a BS "Strategic parntership" like Arsenal has with Colorado? Would they be silent monetary partners or would their crest and colors become our crest and colors? I'm intrigued to see how this one plays out.
Kidding aside, has anyone actually read the article? Not to be an alarmist or Negadelphian, but the continued reports about financial shortfalls among the ownership group are not exactly encouraging. I mean, I've posted before about how Philly MLS is meant to be a stand-alone operation, and iStar, after the initial outlay, doesn't factor into it much, so the declining market shouldn't have been that big a deal. But it still disturbing to read conjecture that the club is already cash poor.
I think they'll be ok once the money starts coming in. It's not easy to do business when the product is still in the buyers imagination. Apparently season ticket sales have been steady (over 6,000 now) and once they release the name and logo they'll build more momentum.
Fine with me as long as we don't become some kind of flavor of the month for a well known European club , such as Ajax - Orlando was. Ajax - Orlando no longer exists as far as I know.
Re: Philadelphia the reason why Miami bid ended? Barca interest in Philly (SBJ 3/16/09) This team has more dramatic turns than an WE made-for-TV movie...
