http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=519&e=4&u=/ap/20030320/ap_on_re_us/cuban_plane This would've been front-page news any other day; I had to go dig around for it on Yahoo! after seeing it on the CNN crawl. Remember the good old days? When the USA did better than Argentina in basketball, the Argentines did better than the USA in soccer, and hijackers demanded to go to Cuba instead of from Cuba?
Some Homeland Security. That plane should have been shot down as it hit US airspace. I thought we learned something from 9/11?
Yeah, that would have been a great idea. Blow a passenger plane out of the sky because we're a little tense. It was intercepted, and obviously didn't present an immediate danger, or else it probably would have been shot down. Thank God cooler heads prevailed.
It landed in Key West, if it'd tried to go anywhere near a big city we might have considered that. Alex
Agreed. I'm glad cooler heads prevailed. Maybe I'm naive here, but if they're tracking the plane like they said with a military escort, they could make a decision to shoot it down fairly quickly. I yield to the military experts on this board for a ruling on this statement.
I missed that. Some rich guy or aviation museum probably just made a bid for the DC-3. Cool plane. The 737 of its time and a workhorse of American aviation in the old days, back when men were men and women were women and kids walked uphill five miles to school both ways and soccer was considered a commie sport. OK, so they weren't maybe the good old days. But the DC-3 is a classic, even if it is slow. Wasn't there a Simpsons episode where Sideshow Bob kidnapped Bart and took the Wright brothers' plane and the military jets were too fast for it. That must've been some interesting flying by the pilots. "Hold on ... slow down but don't put yourself into a reef ... why the bleep couldn't I be in the gulf instead ..." OK. I'm drunk. I'll shut up.
