FIFA introduced mascots into the game from England 1966. Which of these is your favourite:

    1966 World Cup Willie
    [IMG]

    1970 Juanito

    1974 Tip & Tap

My vote goes to Footix, the rooster from France 98. The Zakumi is a close second.

Gauchito and Tip&Tap are the worst/ least imaginative of the mascots, IMO.

I went for Ciao. I like the more abstract nature of it, but probably also because it revives great memories ;)

Tip&Tap as well as Naranjito are also great, simply because they're so ridiculous.

The worst is Goleo and I guess I simply don't get Ato, Kaz & Nik...I guess I'm not Asian enough...They look like gummy bears from outer space...

I'm yet undecided regarding Zakumi...I kinda like the aesthetics and at least he wears pants compared to Goleo, but at the end of the day, I think it's too much a design of its time...looks like it just escaped the Power Puff Girls or something like that...

I liked Caio too. Only that the name is a misfit. I would have something that meant 'welcome' in Italian and not ' Good bye' . It exudes negative emotion.

Why are Tip&Tap are wearing shirts two sizes too small. :D And they shouldn't be wearing the (West) German colours. They should be more universal in their appeal.

    Just my 2 cents

In Italian, it actually means both and I think it's most commonly used as meaning "hello!"

It was the 1970s after all...;)

All mascots usually wear the colors of the host. Makes sense to me...

I think this is the first time I've seen them. Okay, I must have seen them before, but I sure don't recognize them. Guess that means they're the worst for me.

I agree with the poster above. 1998 and 2010 seem the best.

I like Ciao the best. No particular reason, just personal taste I guess.

I like Footrix(1998). The French are not known for theoir animation, but they came up with a good mascot. Furthermore, they were sandwiched between the USA and Japan/Korea, countries that are known for their animation.

Why did Germany have a lion for 2006? I don't associate Germany with lion.

Are the guys who have voted for 'gauchito', Argentinian/ supporters of Argentina or you've cast your vote on based on some artistic consideration?

    This is a hard decision.

    iMHO, a good mascot should:

    1. Sport the national colors of the host or at least represent them largely through their appearance

    2. Have a ball -duh

    3. Be friendly, cheerful, funny or charismatic in some way.

I do know which ones are the worst -- the gummy bears - you can't even tell it's something related to football by looking at them.

Ciao was cool looking but now warm at all. Goleo was OK but kind of weird that it wasn't a graphic, but a photograph of someone with a costume on.

By my considerations above, the best are Willie, Tip und Tap, Gauchito, Naranjito, Pique, Striker, Footix, and Zakumi. I really find it hard to decide.

Does anyone remember the Naranjito animated show?

I am about to vote Naranjito but I really like Zakumi. I'll have to think about it.

    This is strange....

The poll shows that 34 have voted. The 2002 mascots have 2 votes, but when I click on the poll results, it shows just one name bonus_game.

Why is this? Does this happen with anyone else?

I think Zakumi is about the only thing they got right in this world cup.

Has to be Footix. I remeber I had a Footix-shaped pencil sharpener at school during that World Cup, which was literally my prized possession. :p

On a side note, Ciao was easily the worst.
