Hmm, the only ones I think I've seen are: Fever Pitch - about an Arsenal fanatic and their run to the Div One champion in 1989 The Match - about Scottish people and a bar bet Oh and the soccer video in Trainspotting "What a penetrating goal!"
"Victory" --if you haven't seen it...go rent it. Pele's one of the co stars in it. Amazing stuff. "Fever Pitch"--great movie as well. The book is even better though.
There are many interesting soccer movies problem is you can't get them over here. Some might become available soon. "Mean machine" an English remake of the longest yard. Soccer instead pf American football. There is one where town plays against town American actor in that one Robert duval. One takes place WW1 during a truce in fighting Germans played English true story. There are many many more just not here
Just watched "Shaolin Soccer" today - this film is awsome!!! You have to see it. Then Mean Machine as mentioned above. And the flick with Rambo and Pele in it But number one goes to "There's only one Jimmy Grimble". This movie is just so awsome. I was mega lucky to get to see it. We have an annual film festival in our town - last winter one movie got cancelled and they replaced it with the above-mentioned. And I learned of this just one hour before the movie was played!
Greenday, where did you get Shaolin soccer from? Did you rent it or buy it? I want to watch that movie. I though "Mean Machine" was fun to watch.
I saw "Jimmy Grimble" at a film festival in Cleveland and agree that it's a pretty darn good soccer movie. Fever Pitch the movie is better, and Fever pitch the book is better yet. The Cup is about children living among Tibetan monks who do everything they can to get a satellite dish and TV to watch a World Cup match. It's not great but, with soccer movies, you take what you can get. Also heard a rumor that there's going to be an American version of Fever Pitch about the Boston Red Sox. How will that work? Arsenal actually won the League. I guess it will be a fictionalized account.
It's called "A Shot at Glory." Michael Keaton and Ally McCoist were also in it. I haven't seen it yet, but it's been in some indie theaters here in the states. There was one made back in the NASL days with pele and some American guy. I think it was called Hot Shot or something. Really cheesy. I'd vote for Victory, though. Great game sequences, and the stadium scenes give me goosebumps. Aside from Pele, a host of internationals were in the film. I believe the US captain at the time played one of the Germans.
Do a search on Fever Pitch. I remeber there was a thread about the american version a little while ago. Ii might still be around here somewhere.
Out of all the soccer movies I've seen, The Cup is the worst. There's barely any soccer, it's in subtitles, and it's just plain boring as hell. I have several highlight videos - All the goals of WC 94 All the goals of EURO 96 All the goals of WC 98 All the goals of EURO 00 All the goals of EURO 2000 is probably the best. It has all the goals, great saves, near misses, stuff off the post, tough tackles, bad misses, and a little section on the referees. It shows much more build up than any of the other videos I have.
"Greenday, where did you get Shaolin soccer from?" I saw that preview in the movies 2 wks ago looked dumb. It should be in some theaters in the states now. It made a lot of money in hong kong. A field player did Renee Higuita's scorpion kick from way out to score a goal.
Sly Stalone is the best part of that movie. Everytime I see Tony Meola, I'm reminded of that movie. I guess it has something to do with the whole New Yorker look and goal keeping. Anyway, it's definitely a movie worth seeing, even though it's cheesy as hell. Another movie that's good that I own is a documentry from WC 94 called "2 Billion Hearts". It's pretty interesting and the emotion in every game is portrayed well. The best part is they make the shootout in the final very tense with a good use of the sound track. It's probably hard to find this movie, but if you see it around someone definitely buy it.
"The Big Green"... just kidding No really just kidding, my favorite soccer movie is "Vicotry" but I'm looking forward to seeing the "Mean Machine" sounds like it's going to be a good movie just haven't had time to with school and such
the best soccer movie ever is shaolin soccer. ITs in chinese but it has english subtitles and its a great movie. YOu have to download it from kazaa or something like that "A true soccer player can play 90 minutes in 11 positions
