Chelsea director Paul Smith, another of the Soccerex speakers, was asked whether the Russian tycoon was only in it for fun as a hobby he would one day discard.

Smith said this was far from the truth, taking a jibe at Chelsea's less affluent west London rivals along the way.

'For Mr Abramovich it is certainly not a hobby. Fulham is more like an example of that,' he said.
