At the request of AussieLFCfan and my sincere sorrow at the Leaving of God http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N155893070511-1208.htm He will ALWAYS be the people's hero in Liverpool.
Thanks LB! Farewell GOD, you have given us all alot of wonderful memories. Bury one in the back of the ol' onion bag against Charlton for us. You will always be remembered.
it is just a little bit sad we still don't have the type of flair in our team to create that third goal... we will miss you GOD. but we take comfort in the fact that you'll always be our only GOD. bag a goal so we can give you a proper send off.
What a ********ing natural finisher.........will we ever get another striker like him? God knows we need one.... Legend is an understatement.
I'd be thrilled to see him score in Athens. He's one of those rare players that really believes it is an honor to pull on the shirt.
His first 100 goals(in 165 matches ). http://youtube.com/watch?v=JRSASc6WZ0Y So you guys think he'll cry after his last game( I'll be fighting not to).
Thanks for putting this up. No doubt, still my favorite memory of him. God bless you, God. Thanks for the memories!
Lots of emotions..... Robbie was really the reason I became a Liverpool supporter in the first place. I discovered the Premiership in about 1994, and iirc, it was not long after his Arsenal Hat-Trick. There were lots of Prem games on the Satellite Dish at the time, and I took in several games early that season. Suffice it to say I was quite taken by the style of play, the passion of the supporters, and by the incredible finishing skills of a young Robbie Fowler. Absolutley mesmerizing at times. As a young American who had been exposed to the NASL as a youth, played a ton, and had been following the game for years, including attending USA matches back in the mid-80s... well Robbie Fowler was out of this world. A little research, discovering so many enticing things about the club, it's history, the ground, The Kop, the legendary and knowledgeable supporters, and that was that. Liverpool chose me as much as I chose them... thanks to Fowler. When he scored, it was always a little more special for me than when others scored... as it was another reminder of exactly how I became a Red all those years ago. I really was a fan of his more than any other player on any other team I have ever supported, in any sport. And that is saying something from a big baseball fan who has seen his hometown baseball team win a few World Series... 6 times I attended the World Series myself. But watching LFC and Folwer on TV, more than 2,500 miles away? Just as good, really. I quit trying to explain it to my wife years ago. So then, Support the Dockers... Class. Sniffing the line (and Houllier's trying to cover for him by saying he was imitating Rigobert Song, who pretends to "eat the grass" in training) freaking hilarious! All those goals... I have watched Fowler's Hot 100 many times, and will probably pull it out again later tonight.... the amount of finishes on his first or second touch is absolutely astonishing. I added them up once, and more than 50 goals were scored on the first or second touch. I've never seen anything like him, and probably never will. In about 2001, the family gets a dog, a nice Labrador. His name? You guessed it.... FOWLER. Then, he leaves. Devastated... but I still followed him of course I recall a goal for City (or was it Leeds? City, iirc) at Old Trafford, and he shows the Stretford end 4 fingers....... reminding them that LFC had 4 European Cups at the time. Stil a RED!! Even two clubs removed from LFC!! Then he comes back... not his old self, but no matter, still a good member of the squad, and back where he belongs... in Red. I am begging, pleading and hoping beyond anything that he scores in front of the Kop tomorrow. And then in Instanbul... I pray he'll be in the side, and if we are up late, Rafa will put him on for a few mintues of glory as we kill off the game.... if penalties loom, he will do the same. And Robbie will be on the pitch either when we win in normal time... or..... He will freaking BURY his penalty and lift the cup with Stevie G. Long Live Robbie Fowler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will miss him. Bryan in Indy
I MUST see the game tomorrow, but I will not be at home to access the free internet feed.... be in Korean, Chinese, anything will do..... Will there be any recordings of the match out there? Anyone able to send a file my way with the match on it? bryan.usa1950@gmail.com Highlights? Anything? I am truly wanting to see this match tomorrow as much as I am wanting to see the Cup Final against Milan. Fowler has been a big part of my life as a Red......
It’s a day filled with mixed emotions for many of us Liverpool fans, on one hand we can bid a fond farewell with a heavy heart to one of the most natural finishers in English football history, yet we know that this will be the very last league match that our god will play for us, today will bring a tear to my eye, that’s for sure. Fowler is the type of player Liverpool will miss and football will miss, he is one of the last in a dying bread of football player with a great character which shines through just as strongly as his fantastic talent of scoring goals. I know I am repeating myself here, but he was and still is a player I admire and a person I admire. I remember gazing into the television on a Saturday afternoon watching Fowler running towards goals and slotting the ball into the back of the net and I always wanted to play football like that short, happy chap I idolised on television. I have many happy memories as a young chap spending hours kicking a sponge ball with my left foot against a wall trying to master shooting and passing with my left foot and I used to play football at break times sprinting across the playground in a football match hitting the ball towards the goal (which was made up of jumpers for goal posts) and watch it fly over the cross bar (which wasn’t there) and one day I remember running towards the goal and striking the ball with my left foot and for once it went in and although it was a friendly kick about, to score a goal with the same foot that Fowler scored with has to be one of the happiest moments of my childhood and what’s extraordinary is how some footballer on the television (whom I’d later meet and have him sign my shirt) could have such an impact on my life. I remember meeting my hero, Robbie Fowler aged eight, I shook his hand and said hello, I was quite shy and I remember mumbling to him “you’re my hero” and he smiled and looked quite pleased and he signed my shirt and then shook my fathers hand (who worships him as much as I do) and they had a chat for a minute or so and that was that, I had met Robbie Fowler and in that brief minute or so I don’t think I’ve ever been happier, I had met God, my hero, he shook my hand, signed him shirt, it was stuff made of legend. It’s amazing how something as small as meeting a ordinary man like Fowler can have such a positive impact on life, it’s quite overwhelming when I think about it often leaves me with a smile on my face. Many regard Fowler as one of the nicest people they’ve ever met, and although I only met Fowler for a minute or so, he seemed like a nice person and everyone I have ever spoke to who has met Fowler says he’s one of the nicest people they’ve ever met, because to many fans Fowler is God, but he is not a God who is untouchable or unseen, he is a not a GOD who isn’t at touching distance. He’s normal Scousers from Toxteth who won Liverpool supporters hearts and minds, not just from his on the pitch performances, but from his cheeky, happy go personality and his generosity to helping his community. Fowler is a special man and a special player and I don’t think we’ll ever see a player as special as Robbie, he’s one of a kind and what makes Fowler special is the fact he just ordinary chap from Liverpool, who has great talent in everything he ever does. I wish him all the best, the very best, and as I type here with a tear in my eye, good bye Robbie and thank you for everything.
I can't add anything on to what's been said. I read about the match this morning at that's a shame about penalty, but everyone knew it was his day and we don't need to see a gimme goal in order to remember why he's a hero. I'd put him on the bench in Athens, you're gonna want him if it goes to penalties.
Is there any clip online of the moment he was subbed out and the cheer he got from the Anfield crowd today?
OK.what if we drew againts Milan in athens. until 4th penalty taker..still drew. and next will be fowler..and he failed to put it on the net on his last game for liverpool... wow! is he gonna be remembered as Liverpool legend or athens penalty..hmm
He'll always be a legend, one bad penalty won't alter that fact and Robbie missing a penalty? How often does he manage that?
The BBC got some nice shots of Robbie taking his girls and son for a lap of the pitch at the end. It was a heartfelt thanks from the crowd and a couple of class banners. I recorded Match of The Day and watched it back this morning. But its in our digital satelite recorder.
Indeed Saturday was a very sad day for Liverpool fans Worldwide. But rest asured, God will be with liverpool forever more, and this is no bible tribute. But to the one and only true God of Liverpool - Robbie Fowler. The clips on previous pages made my hair stand on end and brought a tear to my eye. Lets hope he gets the opportunity to have a run out next wednesday, even if it is in a pen shootout. What better way to bring the end to your Liverpool career than with a Champions league medal. And by the way thought I'd get on this site before I get another star added to the top!
