What a complete farce that ussoccer.com "best of u.s.soccer" contest is. they barely "got it" last year when they did this and they still don't seem to have gotten it. the whole point of this should be to promote hubs of soccer within the major soccer markets in the country (not necessarily mls markets, of course). places that can receive a certificate from u.s. soccer during a given year based on regional voting. if there is a bar in chicago that's more u.s. soccer friendly than others (amongst people that actually use chicago bars)....u.s. soccer should encourage awareness of such a place(s) anually. people could actually "use" this information if they're looking for a place to go and aren't totally informed and bars in chicago, let's say, might actually "compete" against each other to get the anual regional award....meaning benefits to the soccer fan community. the way this thing works now....its totally national. people from chicago vote for the one chicago bar b/c they don't know anything about the ones in l.a., boston, or ny and vice-versa....totally pointless. if u.s. soccer really wants to market itself and maybe learn something about the soccer markets in the u.s.....they should be letting people in specific regions nominate and vote between a few places they know and get an award out to that place that really goes above and beyond to get the soccer culture entrenched in that locale. god....no wonder it took 40 years to get back to the w.c.
