We are saddened by the passing of former Dodgers All-Star second baseman and World Series champion Davey Lopes . Along with Steve Garvey, Bill Russell, and Ron Cey, Lopes was part of the historic homegrown Dodgers infield quartet which played together from 1973-81. Lopes made four consecutive All-Star teams from 1978-81 and won the NL Gold Glove in 1978. He was the leadoff hitter and catalyst on three National League pennant-winners (1974, 1977, 1978) and the 1981 World Series champions. Lopes also played on Postseason teams with the Cubs (1984) and Astros (1986), and spent time with the A’s during his 16-year career. He later managed the Brewers for parts of three seasons from 2000-2002. As a coach, Lopes was also a member of the 1998 NL champion Padres and the 2008 world champion Phillies. He twice led the NL in stolen bases and finished with 557 career steals, which still stands 26th all-time. Lopes was 80 years old.

Sid Krofft, 96, a Creator of Trippy Kids’ Shows Like ‘H.R. Pufnstuf,’ Dies {From a lengthy obit in the NY Times} With his brother Marty, he released a string of zany children’s programs. Some became cult favorites (even among adults) and others flopped. The Krofft children’s shows featured young actors as well as entertainers more familiar to adult audiences, among them Richard Pryor, Ruth Buzzi, Jim Naborsand Bob Denver. “H.R. Pufnstuf,” the first Krofft TV show, about the dragon mayor trying to help the boy escape the witch’s clutches, debuted in 1969 on NBC. It starred Jack Wild as the boy, Billie Hayes as Witchiepoo and Lennie Weinrib as the voice of Pufnstuf, and it offered more grown-up gags than most Saturday morning children’s shows of the era.

Nedra Talley Ross, 80, no cause given... It is a bit discouraging how many photos captioned "Nedra Talley" out there are actually of Estelle Bennett; their appearances were quite similar, but Nedra had a somewhat sharper chin and smaller ears... "I'll make you so proud of me We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go." So you did, Nedra, and so you will, wherever you are. Shake that hair and let it rip, it ain't just Jesus that loved you. Make those pearly gates ring like precious metals...
John Garrett Ex NHLer. Before my time, but I knew him from the odd West Coast Vancouver Canucks game he would work as a broadcaster. RIP Cheech
