Steve Cropper, 84, no cause given. The colossus of Stax. "i wasnever really a guitar player; I just use it as a tool."
One of my five favorite guitarists, all-time. And now only one of the five is still alive. This news depresses the hell out of me.
Did you realize that the searing guitar on Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs" is also him? At least it was in the video... And he's on both the original and the Blues Brothers version of "Soul Man?" I wonder how many have managed that trick, to be on the original and the tribute decades apart. and hit top 20 with both? Carol King maybe? I gather he was at a rehab center for "injuries sustained in a fall" but those injuries were not COD. I'm too close to that age-- and to faling-- to see it as depressing. But it does feel like all the giants are going on almost a daily basis. We're losing the war on time, although we knew we would...
No, and no. The only one who's still alive is Richard Thompson. The other four were Mississippi John Hurt, Steve Cropper, Nick Drake, and Eddie Hazel.
He could just set it all down in a tear-stained letter; or be light as a bee's wing. Might have two left feet, but know waltzing's for dreamers and losers at love. Undertakers bow their heads when he goes walking by... so crawl back under your rock. "'E's got a glass eye, 'e does" "Naow! 'Owever did y'find out?" "It just came out in conversation."
Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle stabbed to death in their home. https://variety.com/2025/film/news/rob-reiner-dead-princess-bride-spinal-tap-1236608541/
As great as Rob was directing films, he was tremendous as an actor that others could bounce their crazy antics off of. This is one of my favorite All In The Family scenes:
********ed up news. I didn't even know it was a murder when I first read about it, let alone that their own son is the prime suspect.
Anthony Geary, the actor best known for portraying Luke Spencer on the popular soap opera “General Hospital,” died in Amsterdam on Sunday. He was 78.
Check him out. Amazing guitar player. His current band is outstanding. Comments in some of the YouTube video where percussionists are trying to figure out what his drummer is doing (as a first step toward comprehending how he does it) are interesting to me as a non-musician. The band comes from different African countries, xcept his bassist, who’s from D.C.
As the Dr. told my sister an hour before my father died, "pneumonia is the old man's friend." Also-- Joe Ely was in Ray Wylie Hubbard and Rick Fowler's apartment in Red River the night "Red Neck Mother" was written, Also Travis Holland which means probably Jerry Jeff Walker as well. Details can be found in Travis' manuscript "Genesis" if you can find someone with a copy. (AFAIK it is still unpublished, which is a shame...)
Geary was Mormon, and also gay. I didn’t know either of those things. It’s still really icky how his raping of Laura was the beginning of an epic romance. #thingsthatwouldnthappentoday
