Enzo Staiola (15 November 1939 – 4 June 2025) was an Italian actor, best known for playing, at the age of eight, the role of Bruno Ricci in Vittorio De Sica's neorealist 1948 film Bicycle Thieves. He appeared in several other films including, in 1954, the American-produced The Barefoot Contessa with Humphrey Bogart. As an adult he became a mathematics teacher and later also worked as a land registry clerk

I highly recommend this thread. Just a little taste of all the generations of musicians that owe something to Wilson.

“His most unforgettable melody for Mission: Impossible was written in an unusual 5/4 time signature …”

We performed that song in junior high, and hearing it always triggers that memory - our first and last experience with 5/4 time. As I recall it was fun for the percussionists and a challenge for the rest of us.

I played the trombone, though not well/seriously enough to play beyond high school. Great experience though, I feel, for any young person.

In my case, primarily symphonic orchestra and the pit for several HS musical productions. Many - and I mean many, more that a few - of my bandmates pursued music as a career, performing and teaching.

I worry that the same pathways are more difficult now, but doing something you love has its compensations. I wish your son well.

Thanks, he is definitely young enough to pursue his first love of music, the girlfriend has a real job (they met when she played clarinet as an undergrad) and they live in cheap/student housing which has been passed down within the Music Department for years...but suspect that eventually they might want to get married and that might require a job...he does cook an amazing pizza...lol
also, eldest son and his fiance (to be married in just about 3 weeks) first met sitting next to each other playing trombone in the Junior High Band...and yes, they have actually been dating since age 12! Music can do wonders and take you down paths in more ways than just one.
