Our season will come to an end in a hail of glorious Payet free kicks and maybe even Andy Carroll headers. Bring on the summer.
Herrera: Spirit vital to beating West Ham Ander Herrera believes Manchester United's team spirit could be key to winning Wednesday's Emirates FA Cup sixth-round replay against West Ham at Upton Park. The Spanish midfielder is a big admirer of the game's oldest cup competition and recognises the importance of the trophy, to both the club and the fans. A place in the semi-final against Everton at Wembley awaits the winner of Wednesday night's tie and Herrera has claimed the Reds will be doing everything possible to book their spot. "I know how important the FA Cup is for our fans," Ander told MUTV. "We don’t have players in the dressing room who have won it for United. I was talking to Michael Carrick about it and he told me he wants to win and get to Wembley. We realise how important it is for us as players and for our fans to get a trophy. "In the Premier League you show your balance [by being consistent over the season] but in the cup you show your spirit and your desire to win. The FA Cup is a big competition, it’s very emotional. If we beat West Ham we’ll have the chance to play at Wembley, which is a fantastic stadium. I have a lot of things in mind about being there and we have a big chance to be there, but of course West Ham away is not easy."
Having played Sunday vs Spurs, it would stand to reason that Carrick will make way for Herrera for this one. Really hoping he does get the nod tomorrow as Schneiderlin's partner in midfield. This is not about Van Gaal anymore regardless and a FA Cup win shouldn't save him either if United finish outside the top 4. But for the club, players and the fans, winning that trophy while it would not make up for what has been a very disappointing and poor season, it would put some balm on the wound in a way...
Van Gaal expects Carroll to be a major threat. http://www.espnfc.co.uk/manchester-...ds-louis-van-gaal-wary-of-andy-carroll-threat Curious to know what adjustments will be made, if any to at least try and contain him.
He will direct the team to play slow, boring, timid football in order to lull West Ham to sleep. Once they are asleep, Rooney will quietly walk the ball into the net.
Apparently, Timmy was spotted training with the rest of the team today at Carrington, so it looks like he might have a chance to figure tomorrow.
Fortunately for us, that probably won't be the case: Varela did not figure with the U21s yesterday (and there was no mention of any injury either), probably with an eye towards tomorrow's game. Beside, the way Darmian looked when coming on for Timmy Sunday, I'd almost rather have Tony play RB over him, if it came down to it at this time.
Think we have to play Jones alongside Smalling for this one or Carroll will just pull off on Bilbo Blind and have fun stomping him into the ground on crosses. TFM has to start as Carroll also drifts onto full backs at the far post. If Rojo plays he will need to grow a pair and do far better than he did against Alderweireld. Interesting Herrera does the presser. Last time he did he didnt play. Hope he is back and fit - we have missed him.
Jones probably would be the way to go because he's stronger (although not much taller than Blind), but in his 2 appearances with the U21s, he simply does not look ready or sharp. It'd be a huge risk playing him. Rojo would seem like the better way to go under the circumstances for me despite the Tottenham game: he's got more height than Jones or Blind and he has the strength to deal with Carroll as well.
Is it a dead certainty that Carroll plays? With his injury record, I'm not sure he's even played 2 games within 4 days anytime in the last few years.
Whether Carroll starts or comes off the bench, it's almost certain he will figure in some way. Carroll may have had injury issues but it's important to remember he's not that old (still just 27) and looks to be in good form at the moment, so it would be surprising if Bilic doesn't start him tomorrow.
West Ham can go ******** themselves. Hey @ManUtd - just a quick reminder that kick-off is at 7pm. Wouldn't want you to be late for the game... 😜— West Ham United (@WestHam) April 13, 2016
