Fantastic stuff over a club which fought back but in the end a stoppage time match winner rules the day.
I keep watching Stones and keep failing to see what everyone sees in him. That was a SHOCKING piece of defending by him on the winning goal.
Herrera was in that situation because of poor ball control. It was his determination that made that goal happen.
Was really bemoaning Van Gaal subbing Fellaini for Herrera and why Carrick was still on the pitch possibly going into OT, but it turned to be inspired on his part. Great touch from Ander for Martial.
That second half was like watching England - could see it all going wrong and looking at the manager to change it .... and nothing. Deserved on the balance of the game, we should have scored more first half to make it straightforward. LVG should have fixed the central mid problem second half, Carrick was gassed. Credit Fellaini for the goal and block. Credit Rashford/Lingard/Martial for approach play if not the finishing. Credit Rooney for getting back for the clearance off the line. LVG having a big moan about the ref second half - guess he didnt think it was a pen
The work from Martial all the way around leading up to the goal itself is simply fantastic. What a waste of money! https://cdn.streamable.com/video/mp4/x933.mp4
I'm going to ignore how we completely folded for 30 mins in the second half......because the last minute winner by Martial was so sweet.
We dropped our intensity in the second half especially in the final third. Everton started to press and Rooney kept getting freed in the middle to move the ball up, we need to better use the ball and finish the game. Lingard dropped his level probably due to fatigue. We played good football today, the game could have been finished early on. I am surprised none of our posters gave credit to a great first half of performance, and even though we didn't play so well in the second, we were good enough to win again. Martial showed what he has been missing the past couple of games, some clinical touches.
LvG: "It's fantastic. When you see the joy in the eyes of the players it is fantastic to see but also for the fans." "I think we deserved to go to the final. I think the referee... we didn't have any fouls in our benefit. He changed the match I think. We had so many chances. We could have finished it much better." "Everton came in the match because they get all the fouls. And then the fans of Everton were cheering. In the first half – no [they weren't]. The referees are deciding the game and not the players any more."
Anyone notice that after losing the ball, and letting a 4 on 2 happening with Rooney chasing, it took Faillani a while to actually run back. He gave up for a moment.
I found him at the end of the game -- I think he was playing as a defensive mid! Or at least that's where he was on the field.....this is after Herrara came on, so maybe he dropped back? But earlier, when Everton was moving thru Utd's midfield like a hot knife thru butter, I was looking for our phenomenal passing midfielder and not seeing him. Maybe he was in front of the defense all the time? (of course on the 6 v 4 Everton break, I don't remember seeing him defend there either). Guess he has to be on the field somewhere. What else would the color commentator talk about otherwise.
