The FA WSL is now looking more and more like the EPL, teams with a lot of money are looking to pull away from the rest of the field while the poor ones will just fight to avoid relegation. FA WSL 1 9 teams : Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Sunderland, Notts County, Birmingham, Liverpool, Reading, Doncaster FA WSL 2 10 teams : Bristol, Everton,Yeovil, Aston Villa, Oxford, Durham, London Bees, Millwall, Watford At the end of the 2016, there will be 2 teams promoted to WSL 1, 1 team relegated to WSL 2, 1 team promoted from the FA WPL to FA WSL2 ( this will be decided in May 2016) Chelsea and Manchester City will be playing in the 2016/17 UEFA Women's Champions League. The transfer activity behind the scene is strong but so far only two big transfers : Jane Ross to Manchester City and Danielle Van de Donk to Arsenal. I am expecting a few Lionesses to change club during the transfer window.
Im particularly interested if this additional money will make English teams fare better in Europe or if just like with their male coutnerparts it remains to mostly burning money.
I am not sure as the 2nd round is played out of season as well as the QF during pre-season. The stupid scheduling by the FA does not help and it has been the case since day 1. In the first season, they scheduled the live on tv season opener on a poor pitch between Chelsea and Arsenal sandwiched between the Lyon Arsenal champions league games. Guess what Kim Little got injured in that game oops.
Official start of the FA WSL 2016 season 23rd of March and ending on the 6th of November. FA WSL teams particpate in the FA Women's Cup and the FA WSL Continental Cup. Bristol Academy WFC have changed their name to Bristol City WFC. They have alienated all their fans who also supported Bristol Rovers' men team who are huge rival from Bristol City. Basically, they would not have survived as a standalone independent club and were forced to join forces with a men's team.
A league with nine teams......it's all about the money... Very interesting article to read for those of you who didn't yet: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35066314 Transfer news England international goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain has joined Liverpool .
NWSL had 9 for two seasons, Oz's W-League has 9 now and looks to stay that way for a while - not that weird. Just be glad the FAWSL is looking at 9 for literally just one season.
Lol...thanks for the info but why should I be glad of something so unusual, bizarre ??...Anyway, if they are happy like that good for them..personally I'm still waiting for Man.U female team...loool
Yes I get your point but if you cite only TWO leagues to say something is NOT unusual sorry but you should check the definition of the word unusual.....Anyway, as I said before, if the English are happy like that good for them...
Two (well now three) of the most prominent leagues in the world.... Besides, there's a significant connotative difference between "unusual" and "uncommon". A 9-team league may be the latter, but considering the how many big leagues have done it in recent years, I would not count it as the former.
TRANSFER NEWS!!! England international Karen Carney, 28 y.o am, has signed a two year deal with Chelsea FC ! She joined the west London club from Birmingham, an offensive line up with Carney, Ji Yo Sun, Aluko, Kirby, Davison is truly fearsome.. But it's not over as 24 y.o midfielder Laura Coombs has joined Liverpool from ..Chelsea.
Transfers news, England most capped player Fara Williams , 31 y.o cm, has joined Arsenal from Liverpool ..big signal for the gunners. Departure are not over for the Merseyside club as fw Natasha Dowie, df Becky Easton and Iceland cm Katrin Omarsdottir have been recruited by newly promoted Doncaster Belles, so basically only captain Gemma Bonner is still at Liverpool from their league winning team of three years ago....
Chelsea continues its campaign of reinforcement by signing two players, Rebecca Spencer, 24 y.o gk for Birmingham and Jade Bailey, 20 y.o from Arsenal . ps: so Birmingham loss its best player and starting goalie....
Birmingham have the smallest budget in the FA WSL, they cannot compete money wise with the big teams. Arsenal starting to see their youngsters is bad, more to follow, same as Cghelsea who will send many girls on loan to Bristol.
Liverpool has been very active lately in fact they recruited two young players very talented players in Scots international Caroline Weir (20 years old AM) and Netherlands's captain Mandy Van Den Berg (25 years old CB). It's great to see despite all the departure, Liverpool still wants to have a competitive team for next season. Caroline taking the number 1 shirt is a good signal....

Thanks for the info, I didn't know Jenny Beattie and Libby Stout left their clubs and England ....quite surprised by Beattie going to Australia to be fair, very interesting recruitment campaign for Liverpool and Doncaster Belles so far a little bit disappointed by Man.City , I was expecting bigger names bu I guess the transfers are not over yet...
Sometimes a change of venues creates a spark?!? Not too familiar with the player, but from what I understand, when she is on her game, she is a top notch talent.
HA!! ...Well what to say about this signing..lool....In the men's world Man.City has a reputation of caring more about the player's name that his actual talent or team's needs.... In my opinion in Asllani they've finally found a great female representation of their club policy..So it will work for both parties no doubt about that! ps: Talking about her time at Paris no one of her ex-teammates said a world when she left.....
Asllani has been warned by Sundhage that if she doesn't get herself off the bench, then she won't be a starter for Sweden. Maybe that'll set her backside on fire. She had been pretty open for months about wanting to leave Paris and PSG, so dragging her heels to get out of the contract sounds par for the course.
They actually kicked someone out to make way for Asllani. Internal politics at City. By the way the coach there is now in full control unlike last year. I don't think the powers that be will tolerate any failure in 2016.
