In what I can only assume was a direct response to my previous post. We have a new homegrown signing. https://www.dcunited.com/news/d-c-u...ld-forward-oscar-avilez-as-a-homegrown-player
cool, cool. But I have questions about this quote in the article: "Earlier this year, he recorded a hat trick in the MLS NEXT Flex Tournament against the Houston Dynamo, one of several standout performances that underscored his progression through the ranks." I did not think DCU had any MLS Next ties at all, how does one of our academy players play in one of their tournaments?
The team’s academy plays in MLS NEXT at various age group levels. What’s missing is an MLS NEXT Pro team, aka 2nd/reserve team. As it stands, there is a giant gap between the youth academy and the senior 1st team of which DC is unique in having.
I never even looked at the emails or the offer and I only spoke to the rep who called me so that he'd stop leaving hangups on my voicemail. How prominently was that aspect of the offer displayed to prosepctive suckers?
It was literally in the first sentence of the email - "Honoring our legacy is at the core of what we do, and that’s why if you early-renew your Full Season Ticket Membership for the 2026 D.C. United season before 2/21/2025, and we DON’T make the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs, 15% of your 2025 package price will be applied to your 2026 renewal" (emphasis mine).
As merely a former season ticket holder, my offer regarding the playoff guarantee was for a refund at the end of this season. But it goes without saying, the most important part of that e-mail was confirmation of the team's "lofty goals and high standards" for 2025. I resent the fact these greedhead clowns refer to the early championships as "our" legacy. *** "Honoring our legacy is at the core of what we do, and that’s why if you join us with a Full Season Ticket Membership before 2/14/2025 and we DON’T make the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs, we’ll return 30% of your package price back to you at the end of the season*. Starting 2/15/2025, this offer will drop to 15%*, and will be gone soon, so now is the perfect time to take advantage of this unique opportunity! As a club, we have lofty goals, and high standards we hold ourselves to. Our aim each and every season is to strive for excellence, and that starts with reaching the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs. So, we're betting on ourselves to put a product on the field that you’ll want to witness in 2025!"
So a better deal for previous customers than current ones. I already wasn’t even receiving a discount compared to face value for my seats. Looking forward to what offers get thrown over after cancelling.
Select your ticket in the DC United app. Mine still has the Charlotte game listed. After selecting the ticket, tap “Ticket Details”, ticket price is listed there. Returned to having season tickets in 2018 and mine are $46/seat in Section 122. More for the Miami game, but I can’t remember exactly how much.
Has there been any mention of a MLS Next team since the new manager/GM or is this something that has just been forgotten?
For better owners, it's could be valuable to spend attention or money on the NextPro team. But if DCU's owners spend anything whatsoever on it, that's way too much. (I fully understand that I'm in a minority of one on this subject but paraphrasing some old asshole, in your heart you know I'm right.)
Jason Levien claimed an announcement was imminent at the STM Q&A regarding an MLS NEXT Pro team. He described it as so close that he’d hoped to have been able to share it at the event. The event took place on Thursday, September 11th.
The NextPro situation demonstrates the complete dishonesty and unseriousness of Levien/Kaplan. No one goes to NextPro games so DCU could hold them at 9:00 AM at Audi Field or rent some local HS field for matches. However, that would mean hiring a coaching staff, creating a roster and spending money -- all of which gets in the way of their latest real estate grift of having Baltimore "gift" them property there for their "MLS NextPro Stadium." In you heart you know @Q*bert Jones III is right. He's tanned, rested and ready.
The idea that anyone is going to show up in Baltimore for DC United’s minor league team is so farcical. 9 am games in DC the next morning would probably draw better. We saw this with the Reserve League.
