You of all people should know better. Levien would claw his way through solid bedrock with only his hands if you told him there was a shiny nickel down there somewhere. Besides, I think LAG will hold on and win the spoon, in spite of having Dallas twice and SKC remaining on their run in. Our decision day game at Atlanta might be interesting, but somehow, I think not. About the same as the question I asked I wouldn't trust the man to deliver a winner any further than I could throw him. The Grizzlies fans called him a cancer. It must have been ordianry colon cancer because they shit him out of there pretty quickly. I don't think he lasted three seasons in Memphis. He had to come here to metastasize.
A futbol reporter I know said Leviathan told him he wanted a billion dollars to get out. A few weeks ago I heard someone ask Leviathan, "if I won the powerball, and put together a group, how much would it take to buy out?" He replied, "I am not selling, I want to win a cup first." So, we got this douche for another couple of decades... or at least until he gets the hotel opened and another real estate venture he hasn't gone public with yet gets done.
We’re not getting Lamine Yamal like he got Ovi so I think this is a be careful what you wish for situation. The Wizards are the one local team you can make a pretty solid argument are more poorly run than DCU.
Capitals Ted would be better, but still meh to me. I hope he would be better than Levien ( a very low bar), but the Wizards have done absolutely nothing, and the Capitals have been consistently in the playoffs, but only winning the Stanley Cup once (in 2018).
The Caps finally won their first playoff series last year since winning the Cup and promptly got trounced in Round 2. All while having the greatest goal scorer of all time leading the franchise. He’s owned the Caps and Wizards for a combined 40 years and has 1 championship. I’ll never understand, besides the fact that he’s infinitely better than Dan Snyder, why he’s looked at around here as a good owner. If we’re dreaming of a local owner to take over DCU the obvious choice based on early returns is Josh Harris.
I would like to have previous DCU owners Neil Tyra and his group come back again. Alas, their point man KP is no longer available....RIP.
Tom Bogert reports that in addition to Sogurt, the team is looking at Santiago San Roman (currently w/ Toluca, previously Necaxa).
I believe that reporting was from a few days ago. In the end, they decided that they were better off with Mesut Özil's agent.
Listened to Pitch Pass this morning while circumnavigating the wall of Lucca. Really worth a listen. Pablo is the guest and they just eviscerate Levien, Kaplan and the junior AV Club quality of the Fox 5 interview. Greg's rant about DCU's NextPro efforts clearly and effectively demonstrates Levien's (and Kaplan's) interests are all about making money off things ancillary to a stadium and its tenants. Spoiler alert, Pablo scoops Bogert by saying that guy in the Talon suit was fired a few weeks ago after 18 years on the job.
So I am 100% not a basketball guy and for all the times I have been offered free tix, I've been to maybe 3 Wizards games ever. Can someone explain what the Wizards issues are? I know a lot of what the Caps have revolves around Ovi, but they've drafted well and built their minor league teams up, managed their cap well and hired head coaches fairly well. And they'll be competitive after Ovi retires. I'd expect that over the course of 20 years the Wizards would have gotten someone of high value out of the draft, but thats not the case. I know they've traded away their 1st rd picks several time and only drafted outside the top 10 a handful of times, yet they rarely have 2 good players.
This positively breaks my heart. I didn't think I could be more glad that we gave up our season tickets, but I am. For the last 6-7 seasons, seeing Talon was the only thing that our daughter drew pleasure from at the games, god know it wasn't going him having seen them win. He always recognized her, he once climed up into the stands to greet her at our seats. I've got hundreds of pics of them, sometimes 2-3 different times a game. Obviously I hope the guy didn't do something inappropriate, but barring that, I hope Levien rots in hell for an eternity up to his ears in a pool of his ex-wife's feces.
Team is sponsoring a "tailgate" for season ticket holders on 1st Street. Umm..... In case you were wondering - they are not allowed to the hotel-to-be-vacant lot without special exception permit from the City (affects how it is taxed if it is considered usable land and not just a unusable vacant lot). Come tailgate with us before the match on Sat. September 27, as D.C. United takes on the Philadelphia Union! We’re hosting a Season Ticket Member exclusive tailgate outside Audi Field on 1st St., just steps away from the action. The tailgate begins at 5:00PM and wraps up at 6:30PM giving you plenty of time to head inside before kickoff at 7:30PM. Here’s what you can look forward to: Complimentary food and beverages provided for all Season Ticket Members Live music, lawn games, and appearances from special guests to get you matchday ready The chance to connect with fellow members of the Black-and-Red Family before heading into the stadium Giveaways and raffles throughout the tailgate for added excitement
From conversations last Thursday and at the STM pregame HH on Saturday, this is the start of what they want to do more regularly beginning next season. I was clear in my feedback to broadcast that widely so it doesn’t just seem like a gimmick around renewal time. The new hire on the business side from Minnesota does seem to be making a real effort, but time will tell.
My comments from a month ago (or so) were exactly how DC United was lacking in their messaging. Then we got that stupid 'we want to hire more ex-EPL player' type of comment. What you all are posting more recently are the type of statements and positions I've been hoping to hear. Sure, they may not follow up, but for sure they won't follow up if they don't state a plan in the first place.
It's official, unfortunately. What a joke. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/dc-united-name-erkut-sogut-managing-director-of-soccer-operations
