What a match! We are getting very few chances, but they are very high quality. And we look defensively dominant right now. Great week for the Arsenal low block and good month for the Arsenal press

Arteta has been doing some work with the squad after the Brighton match. I was so embarrassed by the group after that match. amazing how they've turned their shit around since then.

Final match stats show only 29% possession for us. It's super odd that to see us giving opponents so much possession, but still being in control for the majority of the match.

I actually enjoyed watching our defensive marking. The players quickly closed down space, switched off brilliantly, and we're quick step in for support when beaten.

Defensively, it's hard to believe this is the same squad Emery coached...

There were so many amazing performances today, but unsung one for me today was Laca. His hold-up and passing was a major reason why possession was relatively close in the first half.

So this is like one of those Twilight Zone choice scenarios, right? Your favorite teams win every game you don't watch live?

    Hooray, and f***!

This doesn't feel right - the second goal and the missed first chance seem like they should be higher?

Also don't remember City having a point blank chance.

Assuming that was the corner kick that went off Sterling's face straight at Martinez

One other thing: I have been happy to pile on David Luiz (Calamity Dave) in the past, but he was very good today. Perhaps its the 3 man backline, whatever. He was a standout.

Is the biggest blue box the “shot” that hit Jesus in the face after Mustafi slightly deflected the corner kick? If so, it really shouldn’t be labeled a shot. Edit: Sterling’s face.

one thing in defense of maitland-niles is he was on the left. his delivery from the right is usually pretty decent/solid.

Upon reflection, another player who had a solid performance in defense and going forward was Tierney. The kid has a knack for being in the right place on the pitch, makes few mistakes, and has beautiful passing in attack.

Tierney has been consistently good since the restart, but there has been no dropffoff even against Pool and City. If anything, he may be getting better, which is encouraging.

Hope he stays here (and healthy) for a long time with us.

Right now, I think United is the more dangerous team overall. Their attack has really improved since the restart with Bruno, Pogba, and Matic an ideal midfield set-up, coupled with Rashford, Martial, and Greenwood (and Ingahlo to an extent) all coming into form up top.

Add a pretty solid defense, **and the standard dodgy officiating slant in their favor**, and I'd strongly prefer Chelski any day.

Outside if his boot it looked like.

    ...

Watched the replay. Can't say I'm not nervous when the side plays counterattacking style but yesterday that did have the nice effect of limiting chances for Luiz and Mustafi to make bone headed errors, as they both played tight and within their abilities.

Loving Tierney, especially since he's a cost efficient buy. Arsenal needs more pick-ups like him.

Loving Martinez' performances, as well. He's vocal and not behaving like a shy reserve, which is great considering who's in front of him.

Chelsea should be interesting and maybe favorable. Shoot we've beat them the last 2 times we met them in the FACF. (I'm conveniently glossing over what happened in Baku 1 year ago)

Tierney yesterday was great. Arteta has been leaning on him a lot lately... there must not be much concern about this fitness or injury risk, like there was pre-lockdown or last year. Long may it continue!

Niles I thought was really good defensively but offensively all he could do was get into good positions... when he received the ball or had to play a pass he was atrocious (and not just from the left). I don't get why he doesn't want to play in the back line... he's was good in that role. It's like he's got it in his head that he's not a defender, as if that's a bad thing.

But my biggest take-aways from yesterday were:

    * The team stepped up collectively in a HUGE way. Our team defending was quick, sharp, aggressive, fantastic, from front to back. There were very few bone-headed moves (1 or 2 came from Mustafi)

    * Even though we had only 30% possession (for 2nd game in a row!), since they were far from their clinical best, it felt at many times, especially in 2T like we were the dominant team.

    * Arteta gets full credit for our tactical, strategic setup. He must be so proud, pulling this off against his mentor. (He must've known Pep would be fuming at FT because they didn't say a word)

    * There's a very BIG decision to be made as to whether @GunnerJacket goes for a hike during the Final.
