Also, interesting to see the lineup on this one. I expect Lamps will play as we have the CL game on Tuesday and Grant and Co will be working him towards fitness. What will be most interesting is where will the ACN boys fit in. Will Grant rest them for Tues vs Olympiacos of play them for a run out?
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield he got booked and it has been 7 days so I would rather have him miss this than the Spudz game most likely to see Ben Haim and RC
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Frank Sinclair, didn't he stop playing for us around 98 or 99? After that I heard he developed a rep for scoring own goals.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Do you think we'll get to see that young Argentinian striker... di Santo (is that right)?
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Not yet. He has yet to impress at the reserves level. We might see Sahar (If he's not injured) and Sinclair in this one. But Di Santo needs to impress first. Even he's admitted it.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield We better see Lampard on Saturday. He was crap on Sunday and totally out of shape. Play him, play the Africans and play JT if Grant think's he up to it. Screw this play the reserves crap. This is the FA Cup, the most important competition after winning the league. We need to go all out, Huddersfield or not. Some of you (and a lot of managers) act like this is some Mickey Mouse competition to be taken lightly. Learn some history. The FA Cup is not a joke and not a competition to give your reserves a run out.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield careful Allez, you may get the wrath of the STOGS when picking on a player who epitimosed what it meant to "wear the shirt". Always honest and hardworking and gave his best every game, no matter who the opponent or occasion. Played through injury, never moaned about a contract extension or lack of playing time. What we would call a true professional, quite rare these days. Unfortunately for Frankie, he was very limited on the tactical side of things and trying to ask him to make an overlapping run to create space or zonal mark to nullify a play maker was like debating with teso- you get the point. He really was the best man marker I can ever remember, even better than Chopper (runs from Dr. I and Clan) IMO. But struggled when asked to actually do something with the ball when he won it. Things started to turn ugly for Frankie after he left the club, while winning the FA Cup and League Cup (in which he scored IIRC). The own goals started to flow, too many to count actually, and then he was part of the Heathrow four which did him no favour and I also believe got into some trouble in Spain during the preseason while with Leicester. Although methinks he won the League Cup with Leicester (edit looked up it- he did). Kept pretty quiet since he dropped down a division, but was a regular for Burnely and Huddersfield. I have met Frankie a few times, and he is a lovely bloke. Still mad about Chelsea, you should see the grin when he talks about the old days at the Bridge. Got some really good stories that you lads would love. Allez, not an attack on you, just go me going about a good old Chelsea boy.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield I'm not knocking the guy. I've heard he was a good professional but I was just curious because to get that sort of bad luck sucks for any player (Except for Leeds). But one thing that amazes me about former players is that most if not all of them (Except for Gallas and Diarra) have always loved Chelsea. Petrescu said playing for us was part of the best years of his life, Di Matteo still lives in London and attends games and I think if Wisey could come here and help out in some way (Instead of being a director of football at Newcastle) he definitely would. Hell didn't Duff and Gudjohnsen say that they wouldn't want to play at another club in London. And no, I'm not bashing Sinclair. I'll happily bash Gallas and Diarra though .
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Fern, are you sure he was part of the Heathrow Four? I thought it was JT, Jody Morris, Eidur and ????. Pretty sure it wasn't Sinclair though. Edit: You're right fern. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/low/football/eng_prem/1558855.stm It was JT, Jody Morris (ERRR), Lamps, Eidur and Sinclair. Technically Heathrow Five though Sinclair wasn't with the club at the time.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield The reason so many loved that Chelsea squad from that period of time was that they were so close and they were a fun team full of professionals.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield its also something funny about the club, so many former players just love the club and speak highly of it. Even ones who have been run off by either bad managers (LeSaux by Webb) or bad management (Cundy by Bates). Allez, I know you werent being nasty, thats why I added my comment at the end. Actually I am glad you brought him up as I brought back a few fading memories and it at least got eddie to post something for a change
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Wasn't it Wisey who said, "Frankie would run through walls for Chelsea, cause he's too thick to open the door."
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Anyway, we reach the 5th round again. It's becoming a bit of a habit innit? It also got me to thinking, that how much you can really miss what football is all about by continually making it deep into competitions.Sounds silly I suppose, but think about it for a second. When we were dire, we used to all look forward to the FA cup draw, as it was an escape from the league, which we were usually not doing well in.Of couse, we would all hope that we would get a home draw and avoid a really big team which would see us go out right quick. When the draw was made, we would spend the remaining days until kickoff going over and over and over the game.Who would play, who would play where, who was pants, who was injured etc etc etc...we had a really good grasp of the team and it's expectations...which were usually not all that high to be quite honest. So, when we did win a game, we had endured all the emotions of it from the draw on the radio, to the team announcement on the tannoy to the game itself on the pitch. If we won, we had a real sense of winning, a real sense of connectment to the game. Of course, thoughts would then move on to the inevitable next round and a quick scamper to the pub to get the late results and endless discussions of who we might play next. This of course would go on for days, replay dates were set and match ups were made.Nothing was taken for granted, we just didn't know what we would do. No, what we did know was that we would go out at some stage, we just didn't know when or even where, we just knew we would. Know what? We didn't care, we just enjoyed every game we had in it, every round we made it through and every minute we got to see played. It was treat we had once a year and it wasn't to be missed. Poxy play, terrible results and a dire pitch would be back soon enough. As soon as the next league game in fact. I often remember thinking of what it would have been like to be a fan of one of the big clubs of the time, those that took winning for granted and laughed at everybody else, completely disregarding any other possibility but a win for their team. Fans where known as total toss pots...or scousers. Both were apt. I often wondered if they ever got any enjoyment out of winning in the early rounds of the FA Cup, I mean, thats what they were expected to do right? I think they missed out on the true meaning of football, what a good ol' cup tie was about and the absolute dread that accompanied the draw, as the wrong draw would put you out. Aye, the draw itself was a frightening thing I think Chelsea is now seeing a generation of fans that will never expierence what we had in the old days. How many Chelsea fans of today watch the draw and have the feeling that it really doesn;t matter who we get, even if away to a dangerous team, we're still capable of winning? How many are looking at Huddersfield as nothing more than a step to Wembley? If you are and can't figure out what I'm talking about, then we have already reached thast point. .....and thats very sad..............
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield spot fecking on good sir and this ladies and germs is what the FA Cup is all about... nice one Clan.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield nice post Clan, but with new generation of fans and the success of the club, it was bound to happen. I don't think it's something all fans should feel sad about, but I can see how fans of your generations would.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Amen, can I get a witness! Preach on Clan. This was my point about 2-3 years ago when I said that I missed this and that brought about the whole "West Ham has a more exciting season" infamous post.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Huddersfield lost to Carlisle 2-1, some guy named Frank Sinclair played 90 minutes
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield The fact that a former player of ours was out drinking with players who were then youngsters and only part-time first-team players is pretty remarkable. Anybody here think that Freddie Ljungberg, for example, would be caught dead out having a pint with Flamini and Justin Hoyte? We're fortunate to have had mostly classy departures in the last few seasons - only Diarra, Gallas, Mutu, and Robben to some extent stand out as sore points. Other than them, we've got Desailly, Petit, JFH, Gronkjaer (even if he was pants he did love his Chelsea), Eidur, Babayaro, Melchiot, Zola, Le Saux, Duffer, Di Matteo, Petrescu - all of those guys are players that I think would like nothing more than to come watch a game at the Bridge, and they're all players that would deserve a hearty welcome from the Shed.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Vialli and Gullit too. (Speaking of which, am I the only one who JUST learned that Babayaro is now joined with Gullit at LA Galaxy? When did that happen and how did I miss it?)
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield And Leboeuf too. And that transfer happened about a month ago. Very low key if you ask me.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield No way is the Frank playing for the Galaxy. He retired. Please, PLEASE show me a link. I swear I'll buy a Leboeuf shirt tomorrow because according to Wiki (I know, I know) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Leboeuf , he's just playing for a Hollywood Celeb team now. He's here, he's there, we're not allowed to swear! Frank LeBoeuf! He's Frank LeBoeuf. Hollywood United, his new club And to not go totally off topic, we will beat Huddersfield 3-1 via a brace from Drogba.
Re: FA Cup R5- Chelsea vs Huddersfield Uh Eddie, I was mentioning Frank as a former player who liked Chelsea. Not him signing for the Galaxy.
