I really liked our whole squad basically pulling the "Cesc to Barca" jersey gambit and tapping up Auba while he's our player
THey broke the cup! Edit: I now realize that PEA picked up the base by mistake instead of leaving it on the pedestal. But that enabled the humorous scene that followed!
If you mean the "14 Always Forward" shirt, I think the official meaning is 14 FA Cup titles. But certainly there could be a dual unofficial connotation of keeping PEA14 in our team going forward. All good.
We got some dodgy reffing go our way with that second yellow awful decision but I’m not complaining fcuk Chelsea
Also relevant to them: in by far our worst season in 30 years, we won as many trophies as they have in that entire 30 year span
I think the key to the win was that we minimized the mistakes. Not perfect but any means, but consistent. I think Pulisic's goal was aided by a (un)fortunate deflection the build-up. Of course, Auba was outstanding, but I especially appreciated the shifts from Pepe (always dangerous), AMN, Tierney, and Bellerin.
Odd stat, since the first of the year, in all competitions, Arsenal are 5-2-2 against the 7 teams that finished above them in the standings. They haven't played that well against the top teams in a long time.
Arteta is more than capable of getting this team to neutralize opponents on a match-by-match basis. But it's obvious (and we've all spoken about it ad nauseum) that this squad is neither deep or talented enough to maintain that level against every opponent
The energy and pressing was huge. Arsenal's press allowed them to regain and maintain possession in Chelsea's half. And Arsenal were able to play out from the back, with Aubameyang opening things up as a deep threat. Pepe was more involved in this match than I have seen him all season.
So when the 2021 season officially starts we get to reset our little game day traditions, right? Actually caught the last 5 mins plus added time via radio. From the sounds if it I probably don't need to sit through the replay of the whole 2nd half. Desperately hope this builds within the lads a hunger for more. I was thinking of Chelsea's trophy haul since RA bought the team and it's gutting to see Arsenal pale by comparison. Would really, really love to see them claim the Europa League next season and restore some glory to the club name. For now though good on ya, Gunners! Another bit o' silverware for the display case.
Absolutely!! IIRC we (or at least I) gave you permission to watch this one live. But well played sir with your dedication to the cause. Sorry you didn't catch it live, but watch it on replay... you won't regret it. Also the post-match celebrations & interviews were some of my fav's (just watching Arteta's now... I'm on board his train!) p.s. Just after the 4:05 mark of the ESPN+ stream there's a funny/scary moment when a hoard of Gooners bomb into the interviews of both Don Hutchinson & Stuart Robson. Luckily for all it only lasted for a few mins, but all Covid protocols went completely out the window. Credit to the pundits to not lose their cool... I'm not sure I would've handled it as well.
was worried, but so happy auba laca, pepe tierny won a trophy with us. Arteta pulling this off in just 8 months is incredible
Mmmm.....maybe. Azpilucueta arguably could've been sent off on the Auba PK. The rule isn't last man but denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity and does anyone think Auba isn't getting a shot off just because Rudiger was getting back? Also, thought Kovacic had at least two fouls in between the first and second yellow. So even if the second yellow was harsh, it's not like that was only his second foul of the whole match. Bottom line: as many times as we've been hosed by refs this season, I'm not losing a minute of sleep over that second yellow.
