Look at that guy from Cologne, German club. He wears a black white f50+ but with no tounge. Is it some kind of modification to make it more comfortable, the tounges look professionally cut
when I looked up for Albert Streit on gettyimages, it strikes me that he always wears shoes without a tongue. his pulses and manias look as weird as the f50+ does.
I don't know, actually to me it looks like the tongue was just cut off by this player. I mean, he's definitely not the top pro in the world and I doubt adidas would make REALLY personalised boots for him (like nike makes AZT 3's with tongue for R. Carlos or golden Legends for Ronaldinho)
this is just an idea but maybe it has something to do with the branding? i dunno cause adidas always has their logo on the tongue
IMO theya re sweet. I should do that to my f50s...I did it 2 my pulses and they look better with them off, especially when you wear a really light colored sock (like black pulses/white sock)

Maybe he can't get the shoe to lace tightly enough for his taste with the tongue in? That's about the only reason I can think of.
