Can anyone recommend some good, comfortable sport glasses for soccer? Those wrap around goggles look so uncomfortable and ultra 80's/Kurt Rambis... :(

Are you a Marvin Hagler fan?

    Pigs Eye (St. Paul),
I recommend disposable contact lenses. I used to play with glasses until I ripped up my nose one day heading with glasses on. I went on BigSoccer and asked for recommendations and somebody recommended the disposables. I tried them and they work very well and have been using them for more than a year.

I too recommend soft disposable contact lenses. There's more benefits to contacts than there are in buying a pair of sport glasses. First, contacts don't get in the way like glasses do. Second, I personally see better with contacts than glasses, because they're closer to the eye and adjust my sight better. Finally, they look better, and you can wear them off the soccer field too.

    are they to correct vision?

the goggles edgar davids wore were to protect his eyes (glaucoma) from fingers/elbows etc, i don't think they were perscription.

I don't think they were perscription neither. You are right about the purpose that Davids wore them. Plus they look really cool.

    I think you're right Becks7.

But I'm pretty sure you can get these type of glasses in a prescription.

In fact the optomotrist right by where I work can make the cool Oakley wrap-around sunglasses with prescription lenses.

You can find more info about wrap-around prescription glasses/goggles here: http://www.allaboutvision.com/sunglasses/rx.htm

Some of the cooler looking eyewear have some drawbacks:

    1) smaller field of vision
    2) the frame curverature limits the prescription, especially for astigmatism
    3) no built in strap

As for contacts: depending on your eyes, you can choose between hard and soft lenses. I wore hard contact lenses because my right eye has bad astigmatism. Soft lenses weren't a good option at the time. Also, since I was playing the desert, I occasionaly had to still wear Edgar David's eyewear to shield my eyes when there was a lot of dust blowing around.

As for now, I wear soft contacts as technology has advanced, and don't live in the desert anymore.
