Just in: Tucson Extreme We are happy to announce Randy Soderman as Head Coach. Randy will bring a wealth of knowledge and be instrumental in pursuit of the Championship. Fans can meet Randy this Saturday at the Maracana Indoor Soccer Arena as we have our Open tryouts beginning at 9:00 am.
Spoke with Randy yesterday - He is getting ready to roll and very excited about Coaching I wish him the best!!
Tucson Extreme We regret to inform everyone that due to changes within the Tucson Convention Center Staffing which created conflicts in scheduling we are suspending our 2012 season and look to work with the Conventtion Center in hopes of return for the 2013 season. This includes the tryouts that were scheduled for Saturday September 8, 2012. If you pre-registered on line a refund will be issued.
WOW! Tucson cancelled their season based on the arena schedule? Just play in a soccer center year one. Sounds like there's more wrong than bad scheduling.
Joke. You could see this coming. Nothing on the website. No press conference. No media coverage or stories for us to read. But hey we have the Sac Surge.
Pathetic - I wonder if Milliken will give them their $25,000 franchise fee back? Or did I hear it went to $50,000? If so, no wonder Kev accepts any Tom Dick and Harry who wants to join his thriving league. - we all want this sport to grow and what he is doing DOES NOTHING for indoor soccer. Way to go Kev.. keep "growing" the sport by filling your pockets with all these new teams. Hmmm.6 teams= $150,000 in franchise fees. 90% to him and 10% for "expenses" Do you not have any freaking standards at all? And Syd... you are the biggest hypocrite on this planet. If I recall you complain all the time how the Blast/MPS and the MISL has "destroyed your childhood memories" If that's the case... what in the hell is the pasl doing to your memories?
Just in: HA HA. Yeah, if this isn't the worst excuse ever for a team folding (er, sorry....TAKING A YEAR OFF) I don't know what is. Looking at the Convention Center website I can see why dates are hard to get. In November and December there are about 7 out of 60 days booked. Have any other excuses Syd because this one doesn't seem to be working.
With all due respect to FifaMan and Gamera, these two posts show just how little you know about the actual situations you are describing. I hope I was never this clueless when I was criticizing the NPSL/MISL2-3.
Okay- I honestly believe the real situation is this: less than 2 mos before kickoff, and we have sold 7 season tickets and about 40 single tickets to the home opener (that is pushing it) and no corporate sponsors, so lets shut it down now. After all- once we sign a few "untapped talented players" we will be flat broke. Of course no team would ever tell you the true story Syd- spin it any way you want. Bottom line this is asinine. And yes... Randy is still a cool dude
So you want us to believe that the Tuscon Convention Center hired a new GM, and nobody told that new employee that 8 dates were set aside for the new soccer team, so he just booked what he wanted to and they lost the dates. Yeah that makes sense.
Syd- I don't know if any Gamera and Fifaman's comments are true but tucson's story is not believable.
I would have to admit to being skeptical of the reason given for not playing as well. The Convention center is booked on the 10th and 11th of November, however, based on the TCC web site, it does not look like that event would impact the arena and the event is over at 6:30 and 5pm respectively. The two events in December on the 15th and 16th, if I am reading this correctly, do not even take place inside the convention center proper, but in a theater attached to the center. The center is booked and the arena being used on January 4,5,6 and would be unavailable. The TCC is unbooked in Febuary and March. Of course, this is based on information on the TCC web site and calendar and perhaps there are dates for events penciled in that have not been finalized as yet.
U of AZ Wildcats hockey team plays there. Here is their 2012 schedule. It doesnt seem to be on the TCC website yet http://www.arizonawildcathockey.org/page/show/387604-2012-2013-schedule-and-results
Using the Wildcats schedule, there are still four Friday and Saturdays available in November, as well as every Thursday and Sunday. In December there are three Fridays and Saturdays available as well as every Thursday and Sunday. In January, only one Friday and one Saturday available but two Thursdays and every Sunday available. In Feburary, all but one Friday and one Saturday are open as well as every Thursday and Sunday. In March, there is only one weekend completely booked. My long-winded point being that in a league that has shown no opposition to changing schedules in-season to accomodate weather, arena availability and teams folding, I find it hard to believe that eight dates could not have been found and that the team not playing this year is less disruptive than shifting some dates.
This is clearly one EXTREME disappointment! (sorry, I know, but you all should have seen that one coming... and I couldn't help myself)
This type of situation is what hurts Indoor Soccer in general. This isn't a pasl issue. The MISL had the same thing with the Rampage & Kixx 3 years ago. Momentum and professionalism is very important in sports from the media and general public. Anytime you doing something half-assed or underfunded you are going to run into this problem. The Extreme folding before the season hurts both leagues. But the GM story just doesn't make sense. It's 8 home dates over 5 months.
This is unfortunate as I was looking forward to going back to Tucson and playing against an old teammate and great friend. Hopefully Randy latches on somewhere else. Guy is class.
