The Newark Star-Ledger reports the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commissions is spending money fast to get RFK baseball-ready for the 2003 season. United officials were up in arms about the concept.

"It's obviously not an ideal situation,'' said Kevin Payne, senior vice president of AEG, owner of United, the Fire and several other MLS teams. "It's going to present some real challenges. The layout of the field, having a dirt infield, the number of dates. We're going to have to talk to the sports authority and make sure we're still taken care of. We've kept that building open for seven years."

AEG has plans for a soccer-specific stadium in the area but does not believe it could be ready before the start of the 2005 season, which puts the next two seasons into play with RFK.

USAToday had an article a few days ago - Montreal will not be in RFK next year. The time constraints will not allow it. Maybe '04 but highly, highly unlikely for '03.

Atlantic Cup?

Interesting story, expecially in the context of the Metros looking for ANYWHERE to play playoff games. I do really hope that we get a SSS (the stuff about 2005...does that mean that DC *is* getting one?)

For my $, however, the real story was at the bottom, where they acknowledge that DC won the Atlantic Cup! hee hee!

Well, now that RFK is free for the fall, why don't the Metro's come down here and play....if they get in the playoffs.

That way we can root for whoever they're playing.
