Hard to say...this area is so apathetic to anything accept the Miami Dolphins. The last Nats match here a few years ago drew pretty well, but that was against Costa Rica and there were quite a bit of Costa Ricans there. I would be surprised if it drifted over 12,000 and even that might be optimistic. The fact that it's supposed to be pretty chilly for So Florida might keep some people away, especially those with children. But I hope I'm proven drastically wrong. I would love to see a packed Lockhart again.
Why Florida? Why has USSF chosen Florida for the Jan and Feb Internationals? Soccer is a cold weather sport... although maybe US soccer fans are not cold weather fans. Still, against Canada, Somewhere like Rochester or Buffalo would have likely produced a better crowd. Anybody?
Re: Why Florida? yeah, why not Foxboro? We could get out the Zamboni and get the ice nice and smooth for the match.
if it's more than 12,000, i'd be shocked. but what do i know; i live on the other side of the country. i just wish i could see it on tv.
Most US fans don't live within driving distance of Miami, and can't afford to fly down to the area twice in less than a month. Those who can go down only once, it's safe to say, are far more likely to go see the Yanks play Argentina than Canada. Alex
Re: Why Florida? Find a stadium for the second city you mentioned, and you will be my new personal, lord and saviour.
Re: Re: Why Florida? hmm... ice...goals... I like this idea! All soccer should be played under these circumstances. If it was we would be world beaters!! Would fighting be allowed?
6000-8000 for this match, for two reasons. First of all there is a major soccer tournament the same day at the Orange bowl, which will draw ALL of the fans in Miami who might have considered attending this game. Also, it is going to be cold as hell this week end in Ft. Lauderdale. Game time temp will be in the 50's. The Canadians are bringing this weather with them, no doubt.
A Canadian reporter (Neil Davidson) reported that organisers were expecting 5,000-8,000 with only 3,000 tickets sold so far.
They should have played this one in Las Vegas. Real nice weather right now. Plus I probably would have been the lone person at the game
I didn't realize this was the case until reading this morning's Sun Sentinel. With teams from Ecuador, Columbia, Honduras and Peru playing in the openers tonight, you can wave bye bye to any Hispanic fans who may have ventured to the game. The Feb 8 game against Argentina was also scheduled up against an event called the Select Classic (which I think has since been canceled) that features some younger players and college all-stars. We don't even have a team anymore and South Florida STILL can't get it right for soccer fans!!
I'm going to be driving down from Vero Beach to see the match tonight. So I guess that makes it 8001. Thorsten
a winter sport? penta champions- brasil might have something to say. the beauty of this sport is that there are tournaments around the world yearround, wherever the ice and snow do not get in the way.
Some South Americans might go to Miami, but let us not forget the huge youth soccer programs in Broward and Palm Beach. I am hoping for over 12,000. Afraid that VERY WEAK MARKETING and lack of youth tickets will keep the #'s lfrom getting much bigger. We are 40 going to Lockhart tonight, and to the club tournament in Miami next week.
