So theres a complete list of players, so if Toronto took one player from each team, here is who i think they would take CHI - Nate Jaqua CHV - John O'Brien COL - Mike Petke CLB - Knox Cameron DCU - Nick Rimando FCD - Alex Yi HOU - Adrian Serioux KCW - Alex Zotinca LAG - Kyle Martino NER - Jeff Larentowicz RBNY - Danny O'Rourke RSL - Andy Williams just a quick thing i threw together before class.
without getting into the SI and salary issues Jaqua - Chi JOB - Chiv Jordan - Colo Cameron - Cbus Donnett - DC Gbandi - Dal Serioux - hous Van Den Bergh - KC Martino - LA DH - NE Jolly - RB Akwari - RSL
I'd be looking at a mixture of old and young, focusing on Defense first then midfield threats, forwards are last
both lists are pretty good. I'd be closer to Firstshirts' I might pick carrol from DC instead of DH and I agree on the his toughts about forwards last after naqua, because you just know they are working a deal for dero. there are a few good keepers on the list so there is no rush to worry on that. Poor kyle martino, he looked so promising what a flop he turned out to be
Andy Williams would (I think) qualify as a Canadian (born there) - so i think he'd be taken (doesn't he get picked in every expansion draft?)
I know that he's a Jamaican NT player, but under MLS rules he wasn't listed as an International last year at RSL (because he has a US green card (I think)) - but he was born in Canada: http://real.saltlake.mlsnet.com/players/bio.jsp?team=t121&player=williams_a&playerId=wil375877&statType=current "..Born in Toronto, Canada, Williams grew up in Kingston, Jamaica..." I don't know MLS rules pertaining to Canadian status for the Toronto franchise, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could fit in as a non-International
I think he'll be taken because of these reasons and because he seems to be trying to play for every MLS team available.
To become a full canadian citizen, three years residence is required. I couldn't find evidence of any program you can immediately enter to start that process. Being born in Canada doesn't do what being born in the US does especially when you are now an adult. There might be some sort of exception given the weird nature of the TFC setup. However, if I were to bet, I'd say he'd have to be an international for at least one season.
I understand that he woudn't be a Canadian citizen - i was just saying that he may not be considered an International from an MLS point of view (and seriously, who can keep up with their ever-evolving rules) - just as he wasn't considered an International for RSL last year: see - http://real.saltlake.mlsnet.com/players/roster.jsp?club=t121 like Pepe wasn't considered an international for the Revs: http://real.saltlake.mlsnet.com/players/index.jsp?club=t109 - at least we have something to think about to dull the recent pain
They weren't considered SI's because they had green cards, which is a US thing. If Canada has an equivalent and Williams holds that then he wouldn't count as an SI. But he needs to be a Canadian citizen in order to not be counted as a SI.
With this in mind, I think they're still going to try and find every loophole they can to count as many guys as 'nuck domestics as possible for the first few seasons until the team takes root.
If they're smart, it means someone goes to Munich in the middle of the night and spirits away a burlap sack full of Hargreaves.
Martino and Carrol are both on trial overseas right now. That may be why they are exposed - they may not be back next year, and would probably only be worth a partial allocation if they do go.
Since this is 10 rounds, that means with every pick Toronto makes, we get to withdraw one player from their pool, right? Hopefully Larentowicz and Riley are the first to be withdrawn.
Uhm - wrong Carroll. Brian Carroll was not exposed - Jeff Carroll, his younger brother, is the one available.
