November expansion Draft. We get to protect 12 players. Who are yours? Mine in no order Busch Cunningham Marshall Buddle Martino Simon Hejduk Akwari Fraser Wingert Herdsman St Dunc
To be honest, I had a hard time coming up with 12 worth saving, I'd keep Paule instead of Oughton: Busch Fraser Marshall Elliot Martino Hejduk Paule Cunningham Buddle Wingert Akwari Herdsman
Busch Hejduk Akwari Marshall Wingert Elliott Sutton Martino Testo Cunningham Buddle Herdsman Fraser's 38 next year, Oughton is a good RB but not worth saving, Scott Not seen enough of, but he'd be the first one I'd protect after the first round was over. I loved what I've seen out of Sutton and I think he's the RM of the future, same thing with Testo but on the left. Herdsman is too athletic to give up.
I struggled with Fraser, but I think he has at least one more year the way he's played so far this year.
He might have 1 more year, but nobody is going to draft him because of his age. Might as well not protect him and use it for somebody else. The chances of Fraser getting picked seem so remote that I would feel safe leaving him unprotected.
Sure he's a great veteran leader, but I would prefer to bring in somebody who will be around a little longer. What's the point of using the precious picks from the expansion draft on somebody who won't contribute for more than 1 year. Maybe you could argue that Fraser would make enough of a mentor-esque impact in that 1 year to merit his selection. I'm rather skeptical of that.
I think people may look what he's done to mentor our team and thibnk its worth it. Look at the difference in our D this year.
Busch, Marshall, Herdsmann, Akwari, Elliot, Martino, Hejduk, Buddle, Cunningham, Testo, Scott, Wingert I think you can get away w/ not protecting certain players, along with Fraser, I think you can do the same with Duncan, Sutton, and maybe Jordan. I think there will be enough options out there that Utah would skip over those 4. I can't imagine Chivas would pick up any of them either, as I don't think St. Dunc is remotely Hispanic.
I was hoping that Checketts would like a good and experienced coaching team and take Andrulis and Warzycha at the same time.
Yeah, Ross is usually pretty solid throughout each match, and I have come to respect that. Elliot's decent, but in the lineup that I see us having, Elliot's not an effective enough enforcer to get the job done. I don't see him on the wing, so that'd leave the middle for him, right? Well, K-Mart's the offensive mid, and I just don't see him as an adequate guy backing Martino up. Also, in my opinion, he's a better destributor of the ball when he's on his game. But I could be wrong.
I wonder if by some miracle the Crew FO came up with a strategy: Don't use allocations now, because then we must protect them in the expansion draft You think they would think of something like that?
can we insist that they take denton? or better yet, have them trade us a discovery pick or allocation or something in exchange for denton? maybe? please?
Another angle to look at with this expansion draft is at the players that you don't protect, which of those players would be taken first and which player would you would then post-protect.(Not the players you want gone) Keep in mind only 3 players can be taken. MY Unprotected: Jordan Oughton(SI) Traeger Fraser Denton Paule Barclay Lagos Scott Ritch Mais I'm thinking if any player was going to be taken first from this list it would be Erik Scot(that is if he is signed from his loan) Young, Creative, and a CR NAT. I would then protect Fraser Then I'm thinking Lagos would be taken and I would protect Paule Then maybe Denton because left sided players are hard to come by even if they suck nuts.
MLS' website says that a team can protect 12 Senior roster players. To me that reads that you can protect as many P-40 and Developmental players as you want. With that in mind I would pick these 12 to protect. Lagos hasn't done much and he has a bum leg. Jordan hasn't even sniffed the field. Denton...what is there to say really. Maiz needs to retire.
I say we cut somebody, and place Andrulis in our lineup for the last month of the season as an emergency fill in. Then we make sure he isn't protected. With any luck someone will take him.
The thing with that is with as much playing time as Marshall and Akwari are both getting this year they probably won't be P-40 after this year. So the Crew will have to protect them. Not that anyone would want to protect these guys, but Ritch and Traeger are both off DP next year too. I think Sutton will be a DP and Barclay(83K) will still be getting paid more then Marshall(68K) as a P-40 sitting on the bench. What a waste of good money Barclay is.
