i could live with that, one problem though, you got 2 Colorado players . Baybe replace Casey with one of the Crew boys; Herron, Kamara, Gaven, at least ones gonna be there. Or if was a chance at centerback for Prideaux, i think id take Boswell from DC, who looks like he'll be up for grabs and hes, needless to say, a quality centerback. but then we wouldnt be taking Carroll. aarrgghh anxiety's killing me Agree that the second pick should be a keep, us MLS draft gurus realize San Jose is gonna get a heist with their second round pick either way if we go for a keeper, i like Sandbo best of whats available. I love estrada too and i could easily live with that pick, but im foaming at the mouth on the upside of Nimo, that kid is gonna be a savage and id LOVE to see him in blue....till he's 18 and jumps the pond.
There was another thread where people were naming players who they specifically wouldn't want (for various reasons). Dema and Goodson were on my list. No hacks please. I don't know if Donovan was on my list also, but for DP I'd much prefer that they go in a different direction. Not that he isn't a good player, but because it just feels "tired" (he's already played here) and there's just too much baggage there with the defection to Gals, etc.
Perhaps, but not many players are wearing 3 MLS Cup rings. As much as people bag on him about his play, the guy is unmatched in the playoffs. Even this year, he played some amazing soccer when Frank's job was on the line. To those who compared him to Kobe Bryant, I think that's a great analogy. Landon can't make a bad team good, but he can make a good team great.
I'm going to be interested to see what Houston do with Ashe - he seems like a really promising, up-and-coming player. Also, given that Yallop spent a bit of time down south, I think we're primed to pick up a few more rejects from the Galaxy -- he'll know exactly who's value from down there. Finally... the only 'good' player I don't want to see on the Earthquakes is ..................Ruiz. I can't stand that guy -- I dislike him to Serna-esque levels. I'm not sure we can get all the Euro-guys to come back. My guess is that we'd have to pay them more than we should (given salary cap considerations), and that they'll continue to take the soccer-culture and Euro pay-day. (And they should, too.) I'd be happy to see Eddie Lewis back though - he'd be a good veteran presence.
Here is my guess as to who is protected on each team: Chicago --------- Blanco Conde Segares Brown Guerrero Mapp Pickens Rolfe Pause Robinson Carr Note: Armas retiring Chivas USA ----------- Bornstein Galindo Guzan Kljestan Marsch Medoza Nagamura Thomas Razov Zontica Guzan Note: Suarez has 1 year left, and may end up going to mexico anyways. Columbus --------- Schletto Heron Gaven Hedjuk Moreno Oughton Grabavoy Hendrickson Gaudette/Hesmer Pierce Migliorzani Note: Cant remember who starts. This is a tough team to figure out. Colorado --------- Cancela Casey Ballouchy Cooke Coundoul Hernandez Ihemelu Kirovski Mastroeni Petke Clark FCD --------- Richetti Saragosa Serioux Ruiz Alvarez Moor Goodsen Cooper Thompson Oduro Toja Note: Assuming that they have no real preference between Sala/Burse, might as well just expose them both. DC -------- Burch Fred Emilio McTavish Namoff Olsen Simms Perkins Vanney Dyachenko Gomez Note: The assumption is Moreno is likely gone. Houston -------- Mullan Holden Davis Mulrooney Clark DeRosario Ching Robinson Onstad Barrett Cochrane KC ------- Arnaud Conrad Garcia Harrington Hartman Jewsbury Johsnon Sealy Victorine Zavagnin Pore (I think he will graduate from GA) LAG --------- Albright Beckham Donovan Canon Jazic Zavier Klein Martino Harmse Tudela Harden Note: CObi retiring New England ------------ Heaps Joseph Larentowicz Noonan parkhurst Ralston Reis Smith Thompson Twellman Cristman Note: This is tough at the end. I could see protecting Dorman or Riley over Cristman, but decided that they will protect depth at forward rather than non starting, unhappy midfielders/defenders. NYRB ------ Angel Reyna Conway Freeman Kovalenko Mathis Parke Stammler Schopp (cant expose more than 1 SI) van den Bergh Richards RSL --------- Beckerman Brown Eskandarian Findley Mantilla Morales Epsindola Talley Wingert Williams Rimando Note: honestly, Im just guessing here Toronto -------- Dichio O'Brien Robinson Wynne Marshall Dunivant Cunningham Braz Brennan Reda Pozniac Note: Im really, really guessing.
Onalfo will protect Morsink before he protects Pore I think. It also depends on what the status of Colombano will be heading into the draft. If he becomes an SI, either him or Marinelli will need to be protected as you can only leave 1 SI available.
I hadn't considered that. Sounds good. No one has mentioned picking up Rico. I wonder if Houston would let him go.
Actually, I was only kidding. After Rico got fined 10k and had a 9 game suspension because he kicked El Pesca......I doubt they would want to play together. But Rico would be a good pick up especially becuase he wouldn't be eligible to play for Houston & maybe if he were let go by the Dyanamo , the MLS may have a heart and reduce his ban becuase he would be playing for an expansion team? Well maybe not......
Honestly I think Burciaga Jr. is a great big piece of bait that KC is going to throw out there expecting to lose, and be done with the exercise. Houston had that a bit with Serioux last year. By leaving him unprotected, they knew he they were going to lose.. but they also were ok with that.
I think you might be right about this, but I would hope they try to trade him for a player straight up rather than let him get away for nothing or future considerations.
The problem with protecting him is that you expose something you might actually want to keep. RSL and DC had that problem, and ended up trading back for the guy they lost, paying through the nose for it. I dont think Burciaga has enough value around the league to take that chance on.
Good point. It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit if Burciaga was gone by next season. His defensive miscues this season cost us a couple of games.
I could never imagine those two playing together on the Quakes, first of all, because I can't imagine El Pescadito here, and second, I wouldn't want him. Clark, now, that's another story. I think he would be an excellent pickup.
I agree, of course. I'll bet Dom was not very happy with him after that expulsion, put a hole in Houston tactics.
You'd pass on Edson Buddle or Kelly Gray? Buddle perhaps, as he'd eat a reasonable bit of the salary cap for a middling return, but Gray is an excellent versatile squad player.
Very good chance that Kelly will be here. I'll bet he's put in a request already. And he is a local product.
I'm wondering if we get Kelly Gray as a trade? or will El-Lay just cut him or what? The evil, cheating, league-favored, insect-eating water-stealing, smog-breathing galactofilth will have a new coach. Some one picked by that idiot gAlexi Lala!! Ha! So my bet is that the new coach will have a pile of money and pretty close to a free hand (with only a little meddling from gAlexi) to pick whoever he wants. So they will dump a fair number of players. You know, if they were smart . . . Nevermind!!! I want them to be stupid and wallop in filth all the rest of their days!!!!! I'd be happy with Kei Kamara too, if he's available. We should see the protected lists pretty soon, probably right after MLS Cup. GOOOOOO QUAAAAAAAKES!!!!!! - Mark
That's a good point. LA, NYRB and Columbus all might have significant roster turnover with new coaches coming in. It would be great if the new coaches showed up before the 11/21 expansion draft. We might see better players left exposed.
I think the team is going to go after several local products. I am sure they will try to get Balouchy back as well. Igwe, Ustruck, Hatzke as well as Carr are also from the area and may try to get transferred here.
