A bit off topic, but I guess it is a question so... Have you seen the expansion draft 'protected' list yet? Curiosity is getting to me as I read it was due by 2:00 PM today.
Re: Questions and Answers I'm hearing my prediction is off one name. http://www.3rddegree.net/2009/10/29/120-fahrenheit-2010-expansion-draft/ probably Hernandez or vdBergh with either Davies or Harris out... I would think.
Re: Questions and Answers The FCD blog says Wallace was graduated, so there is your missed by one player no? Or is it one player from the protected list didn't make it? I would say if they picked Harris over Davies that is a terrible, terrible evalution of talent.
Re: Questions and Answers So Ives has a list up, and Sala was left unprotected with Hernandez being protected. Dont care about that aspect. What I do care about is the bottom of the list where it names all the Generation Adidas grads, and all of Dallas' graduated. It's a lengthy list too, I wonder if GA is going through big changes? If all 5 kids graduated, that means they were all left unprotected right? Wow.
Re: Questions and Answers Just checked Ives and he is confirming his list - my guess is that it comes up inaccurate.
Re: Questions and Answers It was Hernandez over Dario. that was a league error, they listed every single GA. FCD only graduated Wallace.
Re: Questions and Answers http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20091123&content_id=7708330&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp MLS fixed the graduating GA list and only Wallace is on there.
So, predictions anyone? Possibles: Chivas: Lillingston, Marsch, Thomas, Victorine Chicago: Rolfe, Segares Columbus: Moreno, Padula Colorado: Ballouchy, Noonan Dallas: Burse, Sala, van den Bergh, Wallace DC: McTavish, Vaughn Houston: Barrett, Cochrane, Mulrooney, Robinson Kansas: Cristman, Hirsig LA: Eskandarian, Klein, Lewis, Saunders New England: Albright, Heaps, Igwe New York: Sassano, Ubiparipovic Salt Lake: Grabavoy, Mathis, Movsisyan San Jose: Amarikwa, Convey, Salinas Seattle: Eylander, Graham, King, LeToux, Sturgis Toronto: Guevara, Robinson I think Houston, Chicago and Salt Lake will definitely lose a player each, most likely Mulrooney, Segares and Movsisyan. Columbus and LA will too, though which one will depend on the other picks - Padula and Moreno are too good to not take one of them, and there's 3 LA players there with experience and a goalkeeper who showed so much potential in the Cup final. I also think New York and Toronto are safe. I had a hard time picking even possibilities from them. The others I'm really not sure about, but I'll take a stab (in team order rather than the order that they'll actually make their picks) 1. Thomas 2. Segares 3. Moreno 4. Ballouchy 5. Mulrooney 6. Hirsig 7. Lewis 8. Heaps 9. Movsisyan 10. Sturgis Possibly swap Ballouchy/Hirsig for Wallace/McTavish/Vaughn (because Nowak knows these 3 already) /Salinas. I think all the goalkeepers are safe because it should be easy enough to either sign one from overseas or trade for one with picks, and perhaps pick up a backup in the superdraft. I think VDB is safe because he's made it pretty clear he wants to finish his career in Dallas. He may just retire if Philly tries to draft him. Thoughts?
Here is FCD's "Unprotected" list: FC Dallas Burse, Ray Purdy, Steve Ricchetti, Pablo Rocha, Andre Sala, Dario Torres, Daniel Van Den Bergh, Dave Wagner, Blake Wallace, Anthony I'm a little worried that Super Dario is one of the better keepers available...
Movsisyan has already signed a contract with a team in Denmark. I don't know why Philly would select him.
I think Segares must have already made it clear he was leaving, but even still I would pick him. Unless of course he has already signed a deal like Rolfe and Yura have, in which case I wouldn't. Not knowing salaries, I would consider the following 11 players as good options, based on what I little I have seen of some teams. I think if you take Besler, you don't need Padula, Besler was a first round pick last year and I believe one of the better rookie defenders. But if Nowak wants a vet, Padula is probably the better option. I would still take Besler though. Padula Anthony Wallace LeToux Mayen, Gerson Peterson, Jacob Cochrane, Ryan Russell, Robbie Salinas, Shea Robinson, Carl Besler, Matthew Thompson, Wells That gives you outside backs who are proven to decent in MLS, a center mid combo of Robinson, Wallace and Thompson, outside mids/fwds Salinas, Peterson, LeToux and Mayen. Not sure what is up with Cochrane, I don't think he got much time this season, but I thought he was ok in SJ and center back options are pretty thin, maybe MacTavish. The one catch is that Philly can negotiate down deals, and the only way Carl Robinson gets taken is if gets a big cut. Otherwise I would take someone like Ubiparipovic. No one on LA's roster strikes me as good value.
Oops, I did know that. It just slipped my mind when I was writing that post. Not enough caffeine this morning.
I hear that Luciano Emilio was left unprotected. I know he is pricey, (don't know how much). But, I can't help to think he would look pretty good in hoops if we could deal for him.
I think Sala is another one of those guys planning on retiring from FCD. In an interview for the Inferno newsletter a few months ago, he said the day he stopped playing for FCD was the day he stopped playing soccer. I think vdB and Sala are on the verge of retiring so maybe the FO thought it was safe to leave them exposed for that reason.
As in retiring this off season? Or, if they get picked, they are done? That would be pretty big news if both were planning on retiring this offseason.
Ives has his first Mock Draft up. Wallace was the FCD pick. AMADO GUEVARA, Toronto FC BOBBY CONVEY, San Jose FRANKIE HEJDUK, Columbus JESSE MARSCH, Chivas USA EDDIE ROBINSON, Houston STEPHEN KING, Seattle CHRIS ALBRIGHT, New England ANTHONY WALLACE, FC Dallas Nowak isn't going to just select a bunch of veteran players. He will need to take a few younger prospects and few are as intriguing as Wallace, a standout left back prospect who was starting to flourish for FC Dallas before being sidelined by injury. AARON HOHLBEIN, Kansas City NICK ZIMMERMAN, New York
I think that Mulrooney would retire before moving to Philly. It has to do with his wife and her job in the medical field.
I'm not sure I agree with that. He only wanted to leave TFC because she couldn't practice in Canada. She'd be able to work in Philly though so it might be a non-issue.
Brad Knighton David Myrie Shavar Thomas Jordan Harvey Shea Salinas Stefani Miglioranzi Andrew Jacobson Nick Zimmerman Alejandro Moreno Sebastian LeToux 1 out of 10. nice job Ives
