I'm sure they'll find their way there, like they did for the Copa América... Eh, who are we kidding. They could announce Messi going for a Guiness world record in keepy-uppy at MBS and they'd sell it out Now then, let me propose that we continue discussion on the expanded CWC as a concept (e.g. its future and viability) here, while we focus on this particular 2025 edition in a dedicated thread.
That's the reason I asked. I did see that Argentina played the Copa America there as well. We can probably soon retire this thread. After some 2029 news perhaps. If FIFA are smart they appoint a host for that edition as soon as possible so that preparations can commence.
It kinda makes sense to just play it wherever the WC is being played the following year. So, Morocco, Spain and Portugal. That could actually make this club WC useful. But will probably go to Saudi or Qatar in 2029, and Saudi for sure in 2033.
Probably. But others need to know if he's learned anything in the past six months (*ahem* sponsors and broadcasters, not to mention host cities and venues) - he waited way too long to nail down the details for 2025. The expanded CWC isn't established enough yet to move to winter and disrupt global calendars. I say Morocco in 2029, followed by Europe or China in 2033.
No formal confirmation, but apparently USA is being considered as potential hosts for the 2029 CWC: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5983528/2024/12/10/club-world-cup-2029-us/ I guess we’ve reached a point where every major tournament will either be held in USA or Saudi Arabia, so much for “the world’s game”
Yep. Was expecting that. Which makes this whole tournament no different than the ICC or whatever they called those summer preseason friendlies.
@Paul Calixte - I think quite a few of these posts belong in the 2025 thread. That would be very disappointing. If not Morocco, give it to Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, China, or maybe even South Africa.
