Yahoo! quoted CAZETV (don't know how reputable that source is) for the same information:

If so, then it's pretty much what I proposed... only it looks like they used the continental rankings to decide the Uefa and Conmebol teams in Pot 1 instead of giving priority to continental champions (see: PSG and River in Pot 1, to the detriment of Chelsea and Botafogo) o_O

Yeah, which is a lame-ass way of seeding teams. What we had proposed was far more logical (reward the champions), but whatever....

he is one of popular youtube streamers, so definitely not 100% reliable source, especially not with FIFA. we recently learned about FIFA leaks when “dallas was getting the world cup final”

we’ll find it out soon anyway

I’m just glad there is no way Inter Messi can draw Auckland City.

Even if they rigged everything, I doubt FIFA would aim for that. FIFA probably wants to see Inter Miami face the likes of Real Madrid/PSG and River/Boca.

    So,
    • No group can have more than 1 team from the same region, except of course 4 groups must have 2 UEFA teams.
    • All pot 1 teams will be allocated to the first position of each group. i.e. A1, B1, etc.
    • Inter Miami and Seattle are hard wired into the A4 and B4 positions, respectively.
    • A paired seeding principle based on the confederation rankings will be applied to the teams of pot 1 when allocating their respective groups.
Not sure what the last point means exactly but sounds like some rigging is going to take place. :ROFLMAO:

It sounds like they're trying to make sure the pot 1 teams are spread out among the groups in such a way that, for example, the top two aren't going to be in groups whose winners would meet before the final (or at least the semifinal).

It's almost like they want a UEFA team to finish on top of every group. Not sure why. If this tournament is going to be a success, it needs some non-UEFA teams to get past the round of 16.

no clue what they want, apart from money of course, but it will be quite a surprise if any non-uefa team reach the semis

The deal is reportedly for $1B, which happens to be the same amount that the Saudi PIF was looking to invest into DAZN.
    https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20241204-dazn-awarded-global-tv-rights-for-club-world-cup

It’s also the same amount that Apple offered, but I’m guessing they didn’t like the idea of sub-licensing to local free-to-air linear broadcast networks or the content being free.

Access being completely free should also help on the sponsorship side, where FIFA need to find another billion or so to break even if you believe the previously linked article.

In terms of exposure this might actually be a good outcome for FIFA.

I suppose more of the TV money will come from UEFA as more national associations and media markets are involved. It will be the broadcasters that want it. Similar to the way the UCL is structured.

Good deal for FIFA and fans everywhere.

I interpret this announcement as being all games will be available FTA via the DAZN app and no games will be sold to broadcasters - pay or FTA - on a territory basis.

I'd expect larger audiences outside Europe, particularly in Asia, Africa and particularly the Americas.

The KO stage will clash with the group stage of the Women's EURO.

of course DAZN is allowed to sell the rights to the local stations, noone pays a billion for TV rights just to be able to show it for free:D

however according to FIFA statement, those sales are limited to FTA linnear TV stations, most likely to make it available to local audiences in local languages. if DAZN can raise enough money to cover it‘s costs? no clue!

apple offered in the end approximately the same ammount but FTA was never in their plans.

    Well: "Pathway 1 consists of the winners of groups A, C, E and G paired with the runners-up of groups B, D, F and H. Pathway 2 consists of the winners of groups B, D, F and H paired with the runners-up of groups A, C, E and G."

Probably going to be same as the usual bracket we see for 32-team tournaments. A1 v B2; B1 v A2, etc. (Same as Qatar 2022).
