More media rights tenders on the market. The final mix of FTA and pay-tv broadcasters will be interesting to see (assuming there is a mix). https://inside.fifa.com/about-fifa/...media-rights-tender-europe-sub-saharan-africa
Submission deadline of September 24. That lines up with the October FIFA Council meeting. Then they really need to progess venues and draw. This year’s Copa America waited until the first week of December 2023 for both. Will FIFA do the same? Also, which broadcasters will get serious about 2029 when we don’t even know where it is, and the timezones involved?
Red Bull Salzburg, arguably UEFA’s weakest entry, qualified for the new look UCL last night and won’t be short of high profile international games leading up to the CWC. But my personal attention was elsewhere. Watching BSC Young Boys, still winless in the Swiss Super League after five rounds, eliminate Galatasaray from the UCL with wins in both legs!
My prediction for the host spot is the following: If Miami win the Supporters' Shield (regular season) it will be a playoff between SS holder and MLS Cup winner. Otherwise simply the MLS Cup winner. So can someone please catch Miami?
Cucho's Columbus is probably the only hope for Keeping Miami out. He should be in the tournament. Probably the best player with the best form in the CONCACAF.
You would think that they have already selected the 2029 host(s) or are finalising it given that they are selling the media rights to both competitions together.
Yeah, I think that might be backwards. The CWC will be a nice prep for RB Salzburg's CL/Europa League season next year. In any case, they drew PSG, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Leverkusen and 4 others.
My preference would be for the champion of the host league over the last four years (2021-24, in this case) with the best continental coefficient... at present, that would favor the Crew.
I still don't get the point of having a host league team. No offense to the Columbus Crew, but if their involvement is required in order to garner interest from the host nation than this tournament has problems.
They are the last team to get in via UEFA ranking: https://inside.fifa.com/fifa-rankings/fifa-club-world-cup
👀#FIFACWC pic.twitter.com/YkRBNG7Scf— FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) September 3, 2024 Something is coming tomorrow. My guess is the timetable and the day of the draw. Am eagerly awaiting the sales process. Will give indications for 2026.
Maybe host cities? Although tricky without knowing the host team. Globo one of the broadcast bidders: https://azscore.com/news/football/1...-new-fifa-club-world-cup-set-to-debut-in-2025 Official ball leaked? https://www.footyheadlines.com/2024...rld-cup-ball.html?0FrMA=mOlwe#google_vignette
Has there been a Confederations Cup announced for next year? If not - I assume the CWC is the practice for 2026 logistics.
Do you understand that UEFA coefficient ranking is like looking in the 5 year rear view mirror? So you can be ranked very low with a small coefficient number of points collected in the furthest 3 years, but exploded in the last two years with top quality talents bursting out and you actually being a top 10-15 club as your recent power on the pitch and performance show? I give shit about these long year rankings. Nobody has a competition, in which your performance of the last 4 years are part of your points in the current league table for the championship of this season.
It looks at the last 4 years, not 5. I get your argument, but it doesn't really apply in RB Salsburg's case. Its not like RB is being dragged down by what they did 3-4 years ago. In fact, 21/22 was their best season in the CL. They exited the group stage in each of the previous 2 seasons.
My point was/is the coefficient isnot the indicator to trust blindly as a quality gauche for the season at hand.
I get your point, but that's why the poster wrote "arguably". Coefficients aside, RB Salsburg does appear to be the weakest UEFA team.
I don't disagree, but my "gut check" also puts RB Salzburg last from the UEFA lot. Unless you rate one of the Portuguese clubs lower.
