https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/minnesota-united-sign-midfielder-moses-nyeman Nyeman to MNUFC. I guess technically he was on loan to RSL last year, but he was with the Monarchs almost (all?) the whole time. Beveren payed ~$400k for him, I wonder if they get much of anything for him as he was out of contract this summer.
Danny Musovski rumored to be closing in on a contract with the Sounders, as per Ton Bogert reporting for The Athletic.
That’s wild. No mention of the cause. edit: According to this tweet he died of a heart attack. That sucks. Luis Tejada, who played at Panama's first-ever World Cup, has died at age 41 after suffering a heart attack in a veterans league match today, according to multiple reports in Panama.Condolences to his family and friends. https://t.co/LrFANBEKgo— Jon Arnold (@ArnoldcommaJon) January 28, 2024
While I understand not wanting to use TAM or going a full 4 years on the contract (no idea what he wanted on that end), they should have offered him more than they were paying Rubin (they didn't).
Perhaps this played into Fall getting the boot. There was definitely differences of opinion on Moose between Fall and Pablo which was born out when he started Moose the second he was available and back from his "sabbatical". It's a well known fact that Beltran loves Pablo more than anyone really should and Pablo loved Moose so there had to be some kind of power play in there to get the owners to pull the plug in the EF era. As much as Pablo says he didn't know or make the call to jettison his coaching staff I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was all a big horse trade. Elliot goes and Pablo stays ONLY if they can make other changes and make the coaching changes they want. A guy that really believes in his coaching team might not stick around after they have been shown the door. You would think the Universe would frown on that lack of comradery. Just thinking out loud about something that means absolutely nothing. Good luck to Moose in Seattle.
True, but did Pablo pick all the coaches that left? I thought he inherited some of them. Also, what is EF up to now?
Good question, probably not but the more I ruminate on how things all went down the more I want to know how it all went down. And yes, it's none of my damn business. But the more I do think about the more it feels like RSL is still taking half measures. Rip the band aid off and get a coach that plays the style of soccer the owner/FO want the team to play. This mix and match just feels like there are still too many cooks in the kitchen. So very curious to see how this all plays out this season. Don't know what is up with EF but if the trend continues I'm sure he is headed to Seattle. lol
Given how much movement there has been this offseason, I wonder if it was EF's seeming commitment to stand pat (when he suggested we shouldn't expect much out or in) that doomed him. That's a failure of vision that doesn't seem to match with what the owners are attempting. I don't know when the other DP slots will be filled but I expect them to be.
Perhaps, but how is/was there such a disconnect between the FO, owners, coaching, and EF? Really weird. What's done is done so we shall see how it all plays out. This season will definitely be interesting. We just aren't going to have a regular old boring season for awhile I take it.
Maybe he just figured he had his guys in place, and the FO thought we could do better. Me, I like the idea of replacing Rubin, Damir, and Sava with a combo of youth and new signings (or new young signings like Barrajas).
I, for one, disagree. We all have emotional and financial investment in the organization and wanting to know is natural. Things like violations of conduct policies and the sort are none of my business. Something like ownership, FO, and coaches possibly being on different pages at least fall into the box of “My keen interest” if not into that of “My business”.
I agree that the team wasn't getting enough from those players given their compensation, but it'll be hard to watch if they are replaced with unproductive youth.
I definitely and keenly interested in how it all actually went down. I don't really believe that Pablo had no idea his coaches where hitting the bricks. I could be wrong but I lean towards some chicanery involving a little bit of horse trading between Beltran, who adores Pablo, and Pablo himself, working to ditch Elliot Fall. If he had to agree to a new coaching staff so be it. I'm sure that there was a lot more involved with owners, FO, Schmid, etc. but I wouldn't be surprised if the plan was to ditch Pablo too, considering they said they wanted to change out the coaching staff for more "tactical" coaches for Pablo. Which sounds weird. Keep the coach that can't but he can rah rah. We will probably never know what really went down and even if we did sometimes the truth is a tad more boring than what you can make up in your head. Of which I am way to accomplished.
Pablo is the 4th HC since August 2013. That’s a lot of turnover at the job. Perhaps the organization kept him in order to maintain stability for another season, especially while they are without a GM. There’s also the thought that the new GM should have the opportunity to evaluate staffing.
It's a lot of turnover when you put it into the Coach Sloan perspective, but is 4 coaches over 11 years really that high? That's just under 3 years per coach. That seems about average in MLS.
It does seem long for soccer teams. My Crawley Town had 4 coaches last season alone. Not recommended.
In the same time frame: Galaxy = 4 plus two interim guys Rapids = 5 plus three interim guys Dallas = 4 Quakes = 6 plus two interim guys Timbers = 3 plus an interim guy SKC = Vermes since 2009 Sounders = 2 Dynamo = 6 plus three interim guys Whitecaps = 4 plus an interim guy Fire = 6 plus two interims
I didn't realize Vermes has been there since 2009. For some reason I thought he started a few years later. He and Schmetzer are the anomalies. Every season when I think they are finally going to get let go they turn the season around and make a second half surge.
Kelyn Rowe retires at 32. Played most of his career in New England and had some USMNT caps. He left us in 2021, won all the stuff with Seattle (his hometown) in 2022, and then had a knee injury against us in May last year. I believe he'd had some injury issues before, so this was the straw the broke the camels back for him. Nice guy and decent role player. Good luck in your future ventures!
I have no memory of Kelyn Rowe playing for RSL. I'm giving it about a 30% chance that the Wikipedia entry stating that he played 4 games for us in 2019 is some kind of prank.
