Don't want to derail this thread, but why does RSL prefer Spierings to Ojeda? Pretty sure it's not a money issue (could be with the incoming GAM and salaries being similar). So what am I missing in their play?

Not sure. But when Matt Doyle gave did his midseason wrap up early last week, he included Spierlings on the third team. He's rated highly in some parts.

It's a great question. Is it because RSL doesn't rate Ojeda in the "new" formation? Spierings is a bit taller and more of a player that sits back? Did they think that Ojeda would have a hard time not being more mobile?

They are both really good as the call up shows for Ojeda but to me it looks like RSL wanted to go a different direction in that position. You know, it's not you, it's me, that is the issue, may have been the conversation between RSL and Ojeda at the end of the season.

Ojeda was really solid defensively, but outside of them at 2 goal breakout around Aug/Sep last year, he wasn’t really threatening in offense and key passes. Solid player though.

I guess they thought Spierings would be a better fit for the team? Maybe there were some issues in the locker room or personal and Ojeda wanted the trade?

Didn’t Herrera say he wanted out of DC before the lawsuit? Not saying DC wouldn’t factor that in, but I think things were already well in motion before

Yeah. He was vocal about leaving. I think he’s getting close to $1M/yr, so no big surprise there weren’t takers.
